The DB12 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the M8’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the DB12 has standard Rear Cross Traffic Assist, helping the driver avoid collisions. BMW charges extra for Cross Traffic Warning on the M8.

Both the DB12 and the M8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The DB12 comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The M8’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Engine

The DB12’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 54 more horsepower (671 vs. 617) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 553) than the M8’s 4.4 turbo V8.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the DB12 has larger rear tires than the M8 (325/30R21 vs. 285/35R20).

The DB12’s 325/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the M8’s standard 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the DB12 has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the M8.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the DB12 is 1.6 inches wider in the front and .2 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the M8.

Chassis

The Aston Martin DB12 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 to 850 pounds less than the BMW M8.

The DB12 is 5.8 inches shorter than the M8 Coupe/Convertible, making the DB12 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces. The DB12 is 1 foot, 2.9 inches shorter than the M8 Gran Coupe.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the M8, the DB12 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

In case of a sudden change of weather, the DB12 has a standard remote convertible top that can be raised from a distance to protect the interior of the vehicle from damage. On a hot day the DB12 has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The M8 doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to run to the car, get in, turn the ignition on and raise the top to prevent the interior from being damaged.
