Compare the2024 Chevrolet Blazer EVVS 2024 Volvo XC60

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Blazer EV are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The XC60 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The XC60 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Both the Blazer EV and the XC60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV weighs 483 to 1429 pounds more than the Volvo XC60. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Blazer EV 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the XC60. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the XC60 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 10 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Blazer EV’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 84 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in long-term dependability. With 21 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Volvo is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 5 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

The Blazer EV’s standard electric motors produces 41 more horsepower (288 vs. 247) and 75 lbs.-ft. more torque (333 vs. 258) than the XC60 B5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the Chevrolet Blazer EV electric motors is faster than the XC60 B5 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder:

On the EPA test cycle the Blazer EV gets better mileage than the XC60 T8 Extended Range running on electricity (103 city/88 hwy vs. 66 city/60 hwy MPGe).

The Blazer EV can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 279 miles. The XC60 T8 Extended Range has to start its internal combustion engine after only 36 miles.

For better traction, the Blazer EV has larger standard tires than the XC60 (255/60R19 vs. 235/60R18). The Blazer EV RS’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XC60 (275/45R21 vs. 265/35R22).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Blazer EV LT has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the XC60.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Volvo XC60 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Blazer EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The XC60 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Blazer EV can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The XC60 doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The front and rear suspension of the Blazer EV uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the XC60, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Blazer EV’s wheelbase is 9 inches longer than on the XC60 (121.8 inches vs. 112.8 inches).

The Blazer EV has 2.9 inches more front headroom, 2.7 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more front hip room, .5 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear headroom, .9 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the XC60.

The Blazer EV has a much larger cargo volume than the XC60 with its rear seat up (25.5 vs. 24.4 cubic feet).

The Blazer EV RS’ standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The XC60 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Blazer EV has standard extendable sun visors. The XC60 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Blazer EV is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The XC60 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Motor Trend selected the Blazer EV as their 2024 Sport Utility of the Year. The XC60 has never been chosen.
