For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Genesis G90 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Cadillac CT5 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The G90’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The CT5 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the G90 and CT5 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The G90 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The CT5’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The G90 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The CT5 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The G90 has standard Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The CT5 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the G90. But it costs extra on the CT5.

Both the G90 and CT5 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the G90 has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The CT5’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

The G90’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The CT5 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the G90 and the CT5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Genesis G90 weighs 1001 to 1490 pounds more than the Cadillac CT5. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Genesis G90 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned an “Acceptable” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The CT5 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The G90 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The CT5’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G90 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Cadillac covers the CT5. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the CT5 ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The G90’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the CT5’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G90 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the CT5.

The G90 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 138 more horsepower (375 vs. 237) and 133 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 258) than the CT5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The G90 3.5T’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 40 more horsepower (375 vs. 335) than the CT5’s optional 3.0 turbo V6. The G90 3.5T e-SC’s standard 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid produces 74 more horsepower (409 vs. 335) than the CT5’s optional 3.0 turbo V6.

As tested in Motor Trend the G90 3.5T e-SC 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid is faster than the Cadillac CT5 turbo 4 cyl.:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Genesis G90 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The CT5 with the 3.0 turbo V6 engine requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

The G90 has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the CT5 (19.3 vs. 17.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The G90 has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the CT5. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

For better traction and acceleration, the G90 has larger rear tires than the CT5 (275/40R20 vs. 245/45R18). The G90 3.5T’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the CT5 (275/40R20 vs. 255/35R20).

The G90 3.5T’s standard 275/40R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CT5’s standard 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the G90 3.5T has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the CT5. The G90 3.5T e-SC’s 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the CT5.

The G90 3.5T has a standard space-saver spare (not available on 3.5T e-SC) so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the CT5; it requires you to depend on its optional run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

The G90 3.5T has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The CT5 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the G90’s wheelbase is 9.2 inches longer than on the CT5 (125.2 inches vs. 116 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the G90 is 2.4 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than on the CT5.

For better maneuverability, the G90 3.5T e-SC’s turning circle is 1.9 feet tighter than the CT5’s (37.1 feet vs. 39 feet). The G90 3.5T’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the CT5 AWD’s (40.1 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the G90 a Large car, while the CT5 is rated a Mid-size.

The G90 has 10.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the CT5 (109.2 vs. 99).

The G90 has .4 inches more front headroom, 2.8 inches more front hip room, 2.4 inches more front shoulder room, 1.4 inches more rear headroom, 1.3 inches more rear hip room and 2.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the CT5.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the G90 3.5T e-SC’s rear seats recline. The CT5’s rear seats don’t recline.

With its sedan body style and remote trunk release lockout, the G90 offers cargo security. The CT5’s non-lockable folding seat defeats cargo security.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the G90 has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The CT5 doesn’t offer a power trunk.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport, the G90 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the G90 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The CT5 doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The G90 has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the CT5. The G90 also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the CT5.

The G90 has standard front air conditioned seats and the G90 3.5T e-SC also has them in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The CT5 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The G90 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the CT5.

The G90 has standard massaging front seats. Massaging front seats cost extra on the CT5, and are only available on the CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport. The G90 3.5T e-SC also has standard massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the CT5.

Both the Genesis G90 and the Cadillac CT5 have a standard Qi wireless phone charging system in the front seat. To easily keep personal devices charged in the rear seat, without cables tangling and wearing out, the G90 3.5T e-SC also has a standard wireless charging system.

The G90’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
