Compare the2024 Genesis G70VS 2024 Acura TLX

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the G70 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The TLX doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The G70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The TLX doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Both the G70 and TLX have rear cross-traffic warning, but the G70 has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The TLX’s Rear Cross Traffic Monitor doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the G70 and the TLX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The G70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The TLX’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G70 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Acura covers the TLX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the TLX ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The G70’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the TLX’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G70 for 1 year and 12000 miles longer than Acura pays for maintenance for the TLX (3/36,000 vs. 2/24,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Acura vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 31 more problems per 100 vehicles, Acura is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Acura vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 89 more problems per 100 vehicles, Acura is ranked 28th.

The G70 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 28 more horsepower (300 vs. 272) and 31 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 280) than the TLX’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The G70 3.3T’s standard 3.3 turbo V6 produces 10 more horsepower (365 vs. 355) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (376 vs. 354) than the TLX Type S’ standard 3.0 turbo V6.

As tested in Motor Trend the G70 3.3T 3.3 turbo V6 is faster than the TLX Type S 3.0 turbo V6:

On the EPA test cycle the G70 2.5T 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder AWD gets better fuel mileage than the TLX Type S (20 city/28 hwy vs. 19 city/25 hwy).

The G70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The TLX doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the G70’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the TLX:

The G70’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the TLX are solid, not vented.

The G70’s 255/35R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the TLX’s standard 40 series tires.

The G70 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the TLX; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The G70’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the TLX’s (57% to 43%). This gives the G70 more stable handling and braking.

The G70 handles at .94 G’s, while the TLX A-Spec SH-AWD pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The G70 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2 seconds quicker than the TLX A-Spec SH-AWD (24.9 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 26.9 seconds @ .64 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the G70’s turning circle is 3.9 feet tighter than the TLX’s (36.3 feet vs. 40.2 feet). The G70 AWD’s turning circle is 2.5 feet tighter than the TLX’s (37.7 feet vs. 40.2 feet).

The Genesis G70 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 350 pounds less than the Acura TLX.

The G70 is 10.2 inches shorter than the TLX, making the G70 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the G70 is quieter than the TLX Type S:

The G70 has 2.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the TLX (95.9 vs. 93.4).

The G70 has 2.6 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front legroom and .6 inches more rear headroom than the TLX.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the G70’s trunk can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The G70 3.3T Sport Prestige also has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The TLX doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

The engine in the G70 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the TLX. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because there are no rear spark plugs and the accessory belts are in front.

The power windows standard on both the G70 and the TLX have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the G70 is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The TLX prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the G70 3.3T Elite/Prestige/Sport has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The TLX doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The G70’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The TLX has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the G70 and the TLX have standard heated front seats. The G70 Prestige/Sport also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the TLX.
