In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Traverse Limited are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Voyager doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Traverse Limited has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Voyager doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The Traverse Limited offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Voyager doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Traverse Limited’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Voyager doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The Traverse Limited (except LS) offers an optional Surround Vision to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Voyager only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

The Traverse Limited has standard OnStar®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Voyager doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Traverse Limited and the Voyager have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chevrolet Traverse Limited is safer than the Chrysler Voyager:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Chevrolet Traverse Limited is safer than the Chrysler Voyager:

Warranty

The Traverse Limited’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Voyager’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 20 percent more Chevrolet dealers than there are Chrysler dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Traverse Limited’s warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Traverse Limited’s reliability 29 points higher than the Voyager.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Chrysler vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 84 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chrysler is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Chrysler vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in long-term dependability. With 21 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Chrysler is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Chrysler vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 10 places higher in reliability than Chrysler.

Engine

The Traverse Limited’s 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 23 more horsepower (310 vs. 287) and 4 lbs.-ft. more torque (266 vs. 262) than the Voyager’s 3.6 DOHC V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Traverse Limited AWD’s standard fuel tank has 2.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Voyager (21.7 vs. 19 gallons).

The Traverse Limited has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Voyager doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Traverse Limited higher (6 out of 10) than the Chrysler Voyager (5). This means the Traverse Limited produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Voyager every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

For more complete vehicle control the Traverse Limited has a manually controlled automatic, with the available convenience of an automatic transmission and the complete gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. A manually controlled automatic allows the driver to eliminate unwanted shifts and maximize engine braking by down shifting while cornering. The Voyager doesn’t offer a transmission that allows complete gear control.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Traverse Limited has larger tires than the Voyager (255/65R18 vs. 235/65R17).

The Traverse Limited’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Voyager’s 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Traverse Limited has standard 18-inch wheels. Only 17-inch wheels are available on the Voyager. The Traverse Limited offers optional 20-inch wheels.

The Chevrolet Traverse Limited’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Chrysler Voyager only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Traverse Limited has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Voyager doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

The Traverse Limited has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Traverse Limited flat and controlled during cornering. The Voyager’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For better maneuverability, the Traverse Limited’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the Voyager’s (39 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

Chassis

The front grille of the Traverse Limited uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Voyager doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Traverse Limited has standard seating for 8 passengers; the Voyager can only carry 7.

The Traverse Limited has 2.7 inches more front headroom and .4 inches more rear headroom than the Voyager.

Cargo Capacity

Pressing a switch automatically lowers or raises the Traverse Limited High Country’s third row seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The Voyager doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Traverse Limited Premier/High Country’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Voyager doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

Maximum trailer towing in the Chrysler Voyager is limited to 3600 pounds. The Traverse Limited offers up to a 5000 lbs. towing capacity.

The Traverse Limited can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Traverse Limited can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Voyager can’t be towed flat on the ground.

Servicing Ease

The Traverse Limited uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Voyager uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

When two different drivers share the Traverse Limited Premier/High Country, the memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster) and outside mirror angle. The Voyager doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Traverse Limited Premier/High Country’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Voyager doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

On a hot day the Traverse Limited’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Voyager can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Traverse Limited’s available exterior PIN entry system. The Voyager doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

Keyless Access standard on the Traverse Limited allows you to unlock the doors, cargo door and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Chrysler Voyager’s Keyless-Enter-N-Go doesn’t unlock the cargo door.

The Traverse Limited’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Voyager’s halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Traverse Limited detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Voyager doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

When the Traverse Limited Premier/High Country is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Voyager’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Traverse Limited’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Voyager doesn’t offer the luxury of automatic dimming mirrors.

Both the Traverse Limited and the Voyager offer available heated front seats. The Traverse Limited Premier/High Country also has standard heated second row seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated second row seats aren’t available in the Voyager.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Traverse Limited Premier/High Country keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Voyager doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Traverse Limited’s standard automatic temperature control maintains the temperature you set, automatically controlling fan speed, vents and temperature to maintain a consistent, comfortable environment. The Voyager doesn’t offer automatic air conditioning.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Traverse Limited (except LS) offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Voyager doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Chevrolet Traverse Limited LT/RS/Premier/High Country has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Voyager doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The Traverse Limited (except LS) offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Voyager doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
