An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S’ fuel efficiency. The M5 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The AMG GT 4-Door has a gallon more fuel capacity than the M5 (21.1 vs. 20.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door higher (5 to 6 out of 10) than the BMW M5 (3). This means the AMG GT 4-Door produces up to 23.4 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the M5 every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is available on the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the M5.

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG GT 4-Door to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The M5 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the AMG GT 4-Door has standard extendable sun visors. The M5 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The AMG GT 4-Door offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The M5 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
