Compare the2024 Jeep Wagoneer LVS 2023 Chevrolet Suburban

The Jeep Wagoneer L has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Suburban doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Wagoneer L has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Suburban doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Wagoneer L Grand helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Suburban doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Wagoneer L has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Suburban’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Wagoneer L has standard Rear Cross Path Detection, helping the driver avoid collisions. Chevrolet charges extra for Rear Cross Traffic Alert on the Suburban.

The Wagoneer L’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Suburban doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Wagoneer L and the Suburban have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

The Wagoneer L’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Suburban’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Wagoneer L for 2 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 2 visits). Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Suburban.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the Wagoneer L have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Suburban.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Wagoneer L has a 240-amp alternator. The Suburban’s standard 220-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Wagoneer L offers larger standard and optional batteries than the Suburban:

The Wagoneer L’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 65 more horsepower (420 vs. 355) and 85 lbs.-ft. more torque (468 vs. 383) than the Suburban’s standard 5.3 V8. The Wagoneer L’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 8 lbs.-ft. more torque (468 vs. 460) than the Suburban’s optional 6.2 V8. The Grand Wagoneer L’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 90 more horsepower (510 vs. 420) and 40 lbs.-ft. more torque (500 vs. 460) than the Suburban’s optional 6.2 V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Wagoneer L gets better mileage than the Suburban:

The Wagoneer L has 2.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Suburban (30.5 vs. 28.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Wagoneer L has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Suburban. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The Wagoneer L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Suburban doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Wagoneer L easier. The Wagoneer L’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 34 inches, while the Suburban’s liftover is 37 inches.

Maximum trailer towing in the Chevrolet Suburban is limited to 8300 pounds. The Wagoneer L offers up to a 10,000 lbs. towing capacity.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Suburban LT/RST/Z71/Premier/High Country, the Wagoneer L Grand offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, foot pedal distance, outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Wagoneer L Grand’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches. The Suburban’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Wagoneer L offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Suburban doesn’t offer cornering lights.
