Compare the2024 Infiniti QX50VS 2024 Cadillac XT4

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX50 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Cadillac XT4 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the QX50 and the XT4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Infiniti QX50 is safer than the Cadillac XT4:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Infiniti QX50 is safer than the Cadillac XT4:

The QX50 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The XT4’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

The QX50’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the XT4’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX50 for 3 years and 24,000 miles. Infiniti will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the XT4.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the QX50’s reliability 20 points higher than the XT4.

The QX50’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 33 more horsepower (268 vs. 235) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 258) than the XT4’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Infiniti QX50 is faster than the Cadillac XT4:

The QX50 has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the XT4. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The QX50 has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The XT4 doesn’t offer a CVT.

For better stopping power the QX50’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the XT4:

For better traction, the QX50 Sport/Sensory/Autograph’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XT4 (255/45R20 vs. 245/45R20).

The QX50’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XT4’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX50 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the XT4.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the QX50 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The XT4 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the QX50 is 1.2 inches wider in the front and .9 inches wider in the rear than the track on the XT4.

The QX50 AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the XT4 Sport AWD pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The QX50 AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the XT4 Sport AWD (26.7 seconds @ .66 average G’s vs. 27.6 seconds @ .61 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the QX50’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the XT4’s (36.4 feet vs. 38 feet).

For greater off-road capability the QX50 has a 1.9 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the XT4 (8.6 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the QX50 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The QX50 has 3.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XT4 (104.4 vs. 101.3).

The QX50 has 1.6 inches more front headroom, 1.1 inches more front hip room, .9 inches more front shoulder room, .8 inches more rear headroom, 4 inches more rear hip room and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the XT4.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX50’s rear seats recline. The XT4’s rear seats don’t recline.

The QX50 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the XT4 with its rear seat up (31.4 vs. 22.5 cubic feet). The QX50 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the XT4 with its rear seat folded (65.1 vs. 48.9 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the QX50 easier. The QX50’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 26.6 inches, while the XT4’s liftover is 30.5 inches.

The QX50’s cargo area is larger than the XT4’s in every dimension:

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the QX50’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The XT4 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The QX50’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The XT4’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the QX50 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the XT4 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The XT4 (except Luxury)’s optional cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The QX50 Sensory/Autograph’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the QX50 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The XT4 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Infiniti QX50 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the XT4 Premium Luxury/Sport offers wireless charging and it costs extra.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the QX50 is less expensive to operate than the XT4 because it costs $664 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the QX50 than the XT4, including $263 less for a muffler, $36 less for front brake pads, $120 less for fuel injection and $252 less for a timing belt/chain.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Infiniti QX50, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Cadillac XT4 isn't recommended.
