In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Electrified G80 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Electrified G80. But it costs extra on the Polestar 2.

Both the Electrified G80 and the Polestar 2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Genesis Electrified G80 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Polestar 2 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The Electrified G80 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 2’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the Electrified G80 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Polestar covers the 2. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Polestar 2 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 8 times as many Genesis dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Electrified G80’s warranty.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Electrified G80 has a standard 850-amp battery. The Polestar 2’s 760-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Polestar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 137 more problems per 100 vehicles, Polestar is rated below average.

The Electrified G80’s electric motors produces 66 more horsepower (365 vs. 299) and 155 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 361) than the Polestar 2 Single Motor’s standard electric motor.

On the EPA test cycle the Electrified G80 gets better mileage than the Polestar 2 Performance Pack (105 city/89 hwy vs. 100 city/90 hwy MPGe).

The Electrified G80 has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Polestar 2 doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better traction and acceleration, the Electrified G80 has larger rear tires than the Polestar 2 (275/40R19 vs. 245/45R19).

The Electrified G80’s 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Polestar 2’s standard 45 series tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Electrified G80’s wheelbase is 10.8 inches longer than on the Polestar 2 (118.5 inches vs. 107.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Electrified G80 is 1.1 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than on the Polestar 2.

The design of the Genesis Electrified G80 amounts to more than styling. The Electrified G80 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is lower than the Polestar 2 (.278) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Electrified G80 get better fuel mileage.

The Electrified G80 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Electrified G80 has 4.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Polestar 2 (100.7 vs. 96).

The Electrified G80 has .7 inches more front headroom, 3.7 inches more front shoulder room, 2 inches more rear legroom and 4.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the Polestar 2.

With its sedan body style and remote trunk release lockout, the Electrified G80 offers cargo security. The Polestar 2’s hatchback body style, non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Electrified G80. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Electrified G80’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Electrified G80 has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Electrified G80 has standard extendable sun visors. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are standard in the Electrified G80 Prestige to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The Electrified G80 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Polestar 2.

The Electrified G80 has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Polestar 2.

The Electrified G80 has a 115-volt a/c outlet, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Electrified G80 Prestige’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
