Both the Electrified G80 and Ioniq 6 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Electrified G80 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Ioniq 6’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Genesis Electrified G80 has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Ioniq 6 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Electrified G80 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Ioniq 6 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The Electrified G80 has standard Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Ioniq 6 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Electrified G80. But it costs extra on the Ioniq 6.

Both the Electrified G80 and the Ioniq 6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Genesis Electrified G80 weighs 422 to 1103 pounds more than the Hyundai Ioniq 6. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does 40 MPH moderate front offset crash tests on new cars. In this updated test, results indicate that the Electrified G80 is safer than the Ioniq 6:

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Hyundai vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Hyundai is rated lower.

Engine

The Electrified G80’s electric motors produces 216 more horsepower (365 vs. 149) and 258 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 258) than the Ioniq 6 Standard Range’s standard electric motor. The Electrified G80’s electric motors produces 140 more horsepower (365 vs. 225) and 258 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 258) than the Ioniq 6 Long Range’s optional electric motor. The Electrified G80’s electric motors produces 45 more horsepower (365 vs. 320) and 70 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 446) than the Ioniq 6’s optional electric motors.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Electrified G80’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Ioniq 6:

The Electrified G80’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Ioniq 6 are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Electrified G80 has larger tires than the Ioniq 6 (F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19 vs. 225/55R18).

The Electrified G80’s 245/45R19 front and 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ioniq 6 SE’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Electrified G80 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Ioniq 6 SE.

Suspension and Handling

The Electrified G80 has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The Ioniq 6’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Electrified G80’s wheelbase is 2.4 inches longer than on the Ioniq 6 (118.5 inches vs. 116.1 inches).

The Electrified G80 handles at .90 G’s, while the Ioniq 6 SE pulls only .86 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Electrified G80’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the Ioniq 6’s (38.1 feet vs. 38.8 feet).

Chassis

The Electrified G80 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Ioniq 6 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Electrified G80 has .1 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front shoulder room and 1.2 inches more rear legroom than the Ioniq 6.

Cargo Capacity

With its sedan body style and remote trunk release lockout, the Electrified G80 offers cargo security. The Ioniq 6’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Electrified G80. The Ioniq 6 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Ergonomics

The Electrified G80 has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Ioniq 6 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Electrified G80’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ioniq 6’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically. With the Ioniq 6 SEL/Limited’s power windows, only the front windows open or close automatically.

The Electrified G80’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Ioniq 6’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

If the windows are left open on the Electrified G80 the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Ioniq 6 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Electrified G80’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Ioniq 6’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are standard in the Electrified G80 Prestige to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Ioniq 6 doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The Electrified G80’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Ioniq 6’s power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

The Electrified G80’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ioniq 6 offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Electrified G80 and the Ioniq 6 have standard heated front seats. The Electrified G80 also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Ioniq 6.

The Electrified G80 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Ioniq 6 Limited.

The Electrified G80 has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Ioniq 6.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis Electrified G80 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Ioniq 6 SEL/Limited offers wireless charging.
