Compare the2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5VS 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Ioniq 5’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the Blazer EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Blazer EV has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The Ioniq 5 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Blazer EV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 5 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Chevrolet covers the Blazer EV. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Blazer EV ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Blazer EV’s (7/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Blazer EV.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai 9 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

The Ioniq 5’s optional electric motors produces 32 more horsepower (320 vs. 288) and 113 lbs.-ft. more torque (446 vs. 333) than the Blazer EV’s optional electric motors.

As tested in Motor Trend the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric motors is faster than the Chevrolet Blazer EV electric motors:

The Ioniq 5 has a standard locking charge port with a power release on its key fob. The Blazer EV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better stopping power the Ioniq 5’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Blazer EV:

The Ioniq 5’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Blazer EV LT’s 60 series tires.

The Ioniq 5’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Blazer EV’s (55% to 45%). This gives the Ioniq 5 more stable handling and braking.

The Ioniq 5 Limited AWD handles at .88 G’s, while the Blazer EV RS 4x4 pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Ioniq 5 AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.8 seconds quicker than the Blazer EV RS 4x4 (25.6 seconds vs. 27.4 seconds).

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 850 to 1200 pounds less than the Chevrolet Blazer EV.

The Ioniq 5 is 9.7 inches shorter than the Blazer EV, making the Ioniq 5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Ioniq 5 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Ioniq 5 has .6 inches more rear headroom and .5 inches more rear legroom than the Blazer EV.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Ioniq 5’s rear seats recline. The Blazer EV’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Ioniq 5 has a much larger cargo volume than the Blazer EV with its rear seat up (27.2 vs. 25.5 cubic feet).

The Ioniq 5 SEL/Limited’s front power windows both open or close with one touch of the switches. The Blazer EV’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Ioniq 5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Ioniq 5’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Blazer EV.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Blazer EV RS.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Ioniq 5 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2024 and 2 more times in the last 3 years. The Blazer EV has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
