Both the Range Rover Evoque and X3 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Evoque has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The X3’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Range Rover Evoque. But it costs extra on the X3.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and X3 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Range Rover Evoque has Rear Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The X3’s Cross Traffic Warning doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the X3 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Range Rover Evoque’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 258) than the X3 s/xDrive30i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque higher (7 out of 10) than the BMW X3 (5 to 7). This means the Range Rover Evoque produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the X3 every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the X3.

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Evoque has a greater minimum ground clearance than the X3 (8.3 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Range Rover Evoque to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Range Rover Evoque is 1 foot, 1.8 inches shorter than the X3, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Evoque uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The X3 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the X3, the Range Rover Evoque has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The X3 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Evoque to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The X3 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Evoque has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the X3 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Evoque offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The X3 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Range Rover Evoque has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the X3.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the X3.

Insurance will cost less for the Range Rover Evoque owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Range Rover Evoque with a number “3” insurance rate while the X3 is rated higher at a number “5” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Range Rover Evoque is less expensive to operate than the X3 because it costs $390 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Range Rover Evoque than the X3, including $583 less for a water pump, $475 less for a muffler, $156 less for a starter, $24 less for fuel injection, $468 less for a timing belt/chain and $1190 less for a power steering pump.
