The Range Rover’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The CX-90 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Range Rover and CX-90 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The CX-90’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Range Rover has standard Rear Traffic Monitor with Rear Traffic Braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Only the CX-90 Premium Plus/Turbo S Premium offers Rear Cross Traffic Braking.

Both the Range Rover and the CX-90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The Range Rover comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The CX-90’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Range Rover’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the CX-90’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Range Rover third among large premium suvs in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The CX-90 isn’t in the top three in its category.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Range Rover’s standard fuel tank has 4.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the CX-90 Turbo S’ standard fuel tank (23.8 vs. 19.6 gallons).

Transmission

The Range Rover’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The CX-90 doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Range Rover’s brake rotors are larger than those on the CX-90:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Range Rover has larger standard tires than the CX-90 (275/50R21 vs. 265/55R19). The Range Rover’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the CX-90 (285/40R23 vs. 275/45R21).

The Range Rover’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CX-90’s standard 55 series tires. The Range Rover’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the CX-90 Premium/Turbo S’ 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the CX-90. The Range Rover’s optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels on the CX-90 Premium/Turbo S.

The Range Rover offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the CX-90; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

Suspension and Handling

The Range Rover offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The CX-90 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Range Rover has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The CX-90’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Range Rover has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The CX-90 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The Range Rover’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The CX-90 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover SWB’s turning circle is 2.2 feet tighter than the CX-90’s (35.9 feet vs. 38.1 feet). The Range Rover LWB’s turning circle is .2 feet tighter than the CX-90’s (37.9 feet vs. 38.1 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover has a 3.6 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the CX-90 (11.6 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Range Rover to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover’s minimum ground clearance is 3.5 inches higher than on the CX-90 PHEV Premium/Turbo S (11.6 vs. 8.1 inches).

Chassis

The Range Rover uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The CX-90 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the Range Rover SWB is quieter than the CX-90 Premium Plus (66 vs. 68 dB).

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Range Rover’s middle and third row seats recline. The CX-90’s third row seats don’t recline.

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the Range Rover when its optional tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the tailgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The CX-90 doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

Cargo Capacity

The Range Rover LWB’s cargo area provides more volume than the CX-90.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers or raises the Range Rover’s second and third row seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The CX-90 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Range Rover. The CX-90 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The Range Rover’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the CX-90’s (8200 vs. 3500 pounds).

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the CX-90 Premium/Turbo S, the Range Rover has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The power windows standard on both the Range Rover and the CX-90 have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Range Rover is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The CX-90 prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

If the windows are left open on the Range Rover the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the CX-90 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Range Rover’s power window, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The CX-90’s power window (except driver window) switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The CX-90 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The CX-90 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Range Rover has standard dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The CX-90 doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

The Range Rover has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the CX-90 Premium Plus/Turbo S Premium.

The Range Rover offers optional massaging front and second row seats, which keep the driver and middle row passengers. Massaging seats aren’t available in the CX-90.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the CX-90.

The Range Rover’s Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The CX-90 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
