The Toyota Mirai has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. Toyota’s powertrain warranty covers the Mirai 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the C40 Recharge. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the C40 Recharge ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 4 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mirai’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. With 56 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Toyota higher than Volvo.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in long-term dependability. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Volvo is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota first in overall reliability. Volvo is ranked 14th.

The Mirai can travel longer on a full tank of hydrogen than the C40 Recharge on a full charge:

The Mirai has a standard locking fuel door with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The C40 Recharge doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better traction, the Mirai Limited’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the C40 Recharge (245/45R20 vs. 235/45R20).

The Mirai has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The C40 Recharge’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mirai’s wheelbase is 8.5 inches longer than on the C40 Recharge (114.9 inches vs. 106.4 inches).

The Toyota Mirai may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 500 pounds less than the Volvo C40 Recharge.

The Mirai has 1.3 inches more front legroom, 1.8 inches more front hip room and 1.7 inches more front shoulder room than the C40 Recharge.

With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the Mirai offers cargo security. The C40 Recharge’s sport utility bodystyle defeats cargo security.

The Mirai Limited’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Mirai Limited has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Mirai has standard extendable sun visors. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are standard in the Mirai Limited to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

Standard air conditioned seats in the front and rear seats keep the Mirai Limited’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Mirai Limited’s Intelligent Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
