For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Dodge Hornet are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar E-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Hornet are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Dodge Hornet has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Hornet has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Hornet offers optional Rear Park-Assist with Stop that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Both the Hornet and the E-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

There are almost 13 times as many Dodge dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Hornet’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge first in initial quality, above the industry average. With 45 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 15th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge above average in long-term dependability. With 26 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Jaguar is rated below average.

The Hornet GT’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 22 more horsepower (268 vs. 246) and 26 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Hornet R/T’s standard 1.3 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid produces 42 more horsepower (288 vs. 246) and 114 lbs.-ft. more torque (383 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Dodge Hornet is faster than the Jaguar E-Pace:

On the EPA test cycle the Hornet R/T running on electricity gets better mileage than the E-Pace P250 (77 city/77 hwy MPGe vs. 20 city/26 hwy).

The Hornet R/T can travel with zero emissions for 33 miles. The E-Pace can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Dodge Hornet uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The E-Pace requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

The Hornet has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Hornet R/T has a standard locking fuel door with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the E-Pace. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The Hornet’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the E-Pace’s optional 45 series tires.

The Hornet has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The E-Pace’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Hornet R/T handles at .84 G’s, while the E-Pace SE pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Hornet R/T executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.9 seconds quicker than the E-Pace SE (26.5 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 28.4 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Hornet GT has a greater minimum ground clearance than the E-Pace (8.1 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Hornet to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Dodge Hornet may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 200 pounds less than the Jaguar E-Pace.

The Hornet is 5.7 inches narrower than the E-Pace, making the Hornet easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Hornet has .4 inches more front headroom, 1.6 inches more front legroom and 3.7 inches more rear legroom than the E-Pace.

The Hornet has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the E-Pace with its rear seat up (27 vs. 22.4 cubic feet). The Hornet has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the E-Pace with its rear seat folded (54.7 vs. 49.5 cubic feet).

If the windows are left open on the Hornet the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the E-Pace can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Hornet offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The E-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Hornet has standard extendable sun visors. The E-Pace doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Hornet keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The E-Pace doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Hornet’s optional ParkSense Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The E-Pace doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Insurance will cost less for the Hornet owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Hornet will cost $1070 to $1585 less than the E-Pace over a five-year period.

The Hornet will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Hornet will retain 51.34% to 51.35% of its original price after five years, while the E-Pace only retains 51.25%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Dodge Hornet will be $12567 to $16638 less than for the Jaguar E-Pace.
