Compare the2024 Genesis Electrified GV70VS 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Electrified GV70 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The Q8 e-tron doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Q8 e-tron doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the Electrified GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The Electrified GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The Q8 e-tron’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Electrified GV70 has a standard Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Q8 e-tron doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The Electrified GV70’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Q8 e-tron doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Electrified GV70 and the Q8 e-tron have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Electrified GV70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Q8 e-tron’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the Electrified GV70 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Audi covers the Q8 e-tron. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Q8 e-tron ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the Electrified GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Q8 e-tron.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 45 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 77 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 25th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Genesis 1 place higher in reliability than Audi.

The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 81 more horsepower (483 vs. 402) and 26 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 490) than the Q8 e-tron’s standard electric motors.

As tested in Consumer Reports the Genesis Electrified GV70 is faster than the Audi Q8 e-tron (base engine):

The Electrified GV70 can travel longer on a full charge than the SQ8 e-tron 21/22" Wheels (236 miles vs. 218 miles).

For better traction, the Electrified GV70 has larger tires than the Q8 e-tron (265/45R20 vs. 255/50R20).

The Electrified GV70’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Q8 e-tron’s standard 50 series tires.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige handles at .83 G’s, while the Q8 e-tron 55 Launch Edition pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Electrified GV70’s turning circle is 2.2 feet tighter than the Q8 e-tron’s (37.8 feet vs. 40 feet).

The Genesis Electrified GV70 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 800 to 1100 pounds less than the Audi Q8 e-tron.

The Electrified GV70 is 7.4 inches shorter than the Q8 e-tron, making the Electrified GV70 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Genesis Electrified GV70 amounts to more than styling. The Electrified GV70 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is lower than the Q8 e-tron (.29 to .32) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Electrified GV70 get better fuel mileage.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Q8 e-tron doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Electrified GV70 has .5 inches more front headroom, .5 inches more front legroom and .5 inches more front shoulder room than the Q8 e-tron.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Electrified GV70’s rear seats recline. The Q8 e-tron’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Electrified GV70’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Q8 e-tron’s (3500 vs. 0 pounds).

The Electrified GV70’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Q8 e-tron’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Electrified GV70 has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Q8 e-tron only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

Consumer Reports rated the Electrified GV70’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Q8 e-tron’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis Electrified GV70 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Q8 e-tron.

The Electrified GV70 has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Q8 e-tron doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Electrified GV70’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Q8 e-tron Prestige/Launch Assist’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Genesis Electrified GV70 and the Audi Q8 e-tron, based on reliability, safety and performance.

The Electrified GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The Q8 e-tron has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the Electrified GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The Q8 e-tron has never been chosen.
