Compare the2024 Infiniti QX80VS 2024 Mazda CX-90

The QX80 Sensory’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The CX-90 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Mazda CX-90 doesn’t offer height-adjustable middle seat belts.

The QX80 has standard Active Head Restraints (AHR), which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the AHR system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The CX-90 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the QX80 has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Back-up Collision Intervention, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Only the CX-90 Premium Plus/Turbo S Premium offers Rear Cross Traffic Braking.

Both the QX80 and the CX-90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The Infiniti QX80 weighs 458 to 1376 pounds more than the Mazda CX-90. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The QX80 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The CX-90’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 24,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX80 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Mazda covers the CX-90. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the CX-90 ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The QX80’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the CX-90’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX80 for 3 years and 45000 miles. Infiniti will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mazda doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the CX-90.

The QX80’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 120 more horsepower (400 vs. 280) and 81 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 332) than the CX-90’s standard 3.3 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid. The QX80’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 77 more horsepower (400 vs. 323) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 369) than the CX-90 PHEV’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid. The QX80’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 60 more horsepower (400 vs. 340) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 369) than the CX-90 Turbo S’ standard 3.3 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the Infiniti QX80 is faster than the CX-90 Turbo S:

The QX80 has 7.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the CX-90’s standard fuel tank (26 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The QX80 has 6.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the CX-90 Turbo S’ standard fuel tank (26 vs. 19.6 gallons).

For better stopping power the QX80’s brake rotors are larger than those on the CX-90:

For better traction, the QX80 has larger tires than the CX-90 (275/60R20 vs. 265/55R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX80 Luxe has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the CX-90. The QX80 Premium Select/Sensory’s 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels on the CX-90 Premium/Turbo S.

The Infiniti QX80’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Mazda CX-90 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The QX80 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The CX-90 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The QX80 has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the CX-90; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The QX80 Sensory has a standard automatic rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The CX-90 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For greater off-road capability the QX80 has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the CX-90 (9.2 vs. 8 inches), allowing the QX80 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The QX80’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the CX-90 PHEV Premium/Turbo S (9.2 vs. 8.1 inches).

The QX80 has 10.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the CX-90 (152.5 vs. 141.6).

The QX80 has .2 inches more front headroom, 4.6 inches more front shoulder room, .7 inches more rear headroom, 1.6 inches more rear legroom, 5.4 inches more rear shoulder room and 7.2 inches more third row shoulder room than the CX-90.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX80’s middle and third row seats recline. The CX-90’s third row seats don’t recline.

The QX80’s cargo area provides more volume than the CX-90.

The QX80’s cargo area is larger than the CX-90’s in almost every dimension:

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the QX80 Sensory’s second row seats and pressing a switch automatically lowers or raises the QX80’s third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The CX-90 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the QX80. The CX-90 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The QX80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the CX-90’s (8500 vs. 3500 pounds).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Mazda. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 6% lower rating, Mazda is ranked 11th.

The QX80’s standard Entry/Exit Assist raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The CX-90 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The QX80’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The CX-90 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

If the windows are left open on the QX80 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the CX-90 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The QX80’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The CX-90’s power window (except driver window) switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The QX80 Sensory has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The CX-90 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The QX80 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the CX-90 Premium Plus/Turbo S Premium.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Infiniti QX80 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the CX-90.

The QX80 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The CX-90 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
