Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Maserati Levante doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The QX80 Sensory’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Levante doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Maserati Levante has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the QX80 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Levante doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Infiniti QX80 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Levante doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The QX80 has standard Backup Collision Intervention that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Levante doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The QX80’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Levante.

Both the QX80 and Levante have rear cross-traffic warning, but the QX80 has Back-up Collision Intervention (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Levante’s Rear Cross Path doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the QX80 and the Levante have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The Infiniti QX80 weighs 631 to 1435 pounds more than the Maserati Levante. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The QX80 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Levante’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX80 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Maserati covers the Levante. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Levante ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The QX80’s corrosion warranty is 3 years and unlimited miles longer than the Levante’s (7/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX80 for 3 years and 45000 miles. Infiniti will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Maserati doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Levante.

There are over 74 percent more Infiniti dealers than there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the QX80’s warranty.

Engine

The QX80’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 55 more horsepower (400 vs. 345) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 369) than the Levante GT’s standard 3.0 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Infiniti QX80 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Levante requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

The QX80 has 4.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the Levante (26 vs. 21.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Infiniti QX80 higher (5 out of 10) than the Maserati Levante (1 to 3). This means the QX80 produces up to 39 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Levante every 15,000 miles.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the QX80’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Levante:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the QX80 has larger tires than the Levante (275/60R20 vs. 265/45R20). The QX80 Luxe’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Levante (275/60R20 vs. 265/45R20).

The Infiniti QX80’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Maserati Levante only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The QX80 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Levante doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The QX80 has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Levante; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the QX80’s wheelbase is 2.8 inches longer than on the Levante (121.1 inches vs. 118.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the QX80 is 3.3 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Levante.

Passenger Space

The QX80 offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Levante can only carry 5.

The QX80 has 8 inches more front shoulder room, .9 inches more rear headroom, 6.4 inches more rear legroom and 7.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the Levante.

Cargo Capacity

The QX80’s cargo area provides more volume than the Levante.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the QX80 Sensory’s second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Levante doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

Towing

The QX80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Levante’s (8500 vs. 5952 pounds).

While the Levante Modena S can only tow 3306, any QX80 can tow a minimum of 8500 pounds.

Ergonomics

The QX80’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the Levante’s standard xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Infiniti QX80 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Levante doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The QX80 Sensory has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Levante doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Model Availability

The QX80 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Levante doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

The Infiniti QX80 outsold the Maserati Levante by 84% during 2022.
