Compare the2024 Jaguar XF VS 2024 BMW 5 Series

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar XF have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW 5 Series doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the XF and 5 Series have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The XF has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The 5 Series’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XF’s standard All Surface Progress Control allows you to creep down safely. The 5 Series doesn’t offer All Surface Progress Control.

Both the XF and the 5 Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The XF comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 5 Series’ 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XF for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than BMW pays for maintenance for the 5 Series (5/60,000 vs. 3/36,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar above average in initial quality. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated lower.

The XF P300’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 41 more horsepower (296 vs. 255) than the 530i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

The XF has 3.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the 5 Series (19.5 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better traction, the XF’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 5 Series (255/35R20 vs. 245/40R20).

The Jaguar XF may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 400 pounds less than the BMW 5 Series.

The XF is 3.8 inches shorter than the 5 Series, making the XF easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The XF has .2 inches more front legroom, .5 inches more rear headroom and .7 inches more rear legroom than the 5 Series.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the XF uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The 5 Series doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the XF to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The 5 Series doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The XF SE/R-Dynamic offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The 5 Series doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The XF has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the 5 Series.
