When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XF’s standard All Surface Progress Control allows you to creep down safely. The S60 doesn’t offer All Surface Progress Control.

Both the XF and the S60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The XF comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The S60’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XF for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than Volvo pays for maintenance for the S60 (5/60,000 vs. 3/36,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar above average in initial quality. With 65 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is rated below average.

Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are more reliable than Volvo With 23 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Jaguar higher than Volvo.

The XF P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 258) than the S60 B5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

The XF has 3.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the S60 (19.5 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar XF higher (7 out of 10) than the Volvo S60 (5 to 7). This means the XF produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the S60 every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the XF has larger standard tires than the S60 (245/40R19 vs. 235/45R18). The XF’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the S60 (255/35R20 vs. 235/45R18).

The XF’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the S60’s standard 45 series tires. The XF’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the S60’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XF has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the S60. The XF’s optional 20-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the S60.

The front and rear suspension of the XF uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the S60, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The XF offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The S60’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the XF’s wheelbase is 3.4 inches longer than on the S60 (116.5 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

The XF has .1 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear headroom, 2.5 inches more rear legroom and 1.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the S60.

A Trailer Stability Assist is standard on the XF, using the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the S60.

The engine in the XF is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the S60. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The XF’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The S60 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XF SE/R-Dynamic to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The S60 doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The XF has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the S60.
