Compare the2024 Jaguar XFVS 2024 BMW 3 Series Sedan

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar XF have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW 3 Series Sedan doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the XF and 3 Series Sedan have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The XF has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The 3 Series Sedan’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XF’s standard All Surface Progress Control allows you to creep down safely. The 3 Series Sedan doesn’t offer All Surface Progress Control.

The XF’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the 3 Series Sedan.

The XF has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the 3 Series Sedan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the XF has standard Rear Traffic Warning and Rear Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. BMW charges extra for Cross Traffic Warning on the 3 Series Sedan and the 3 Series Sedan’s Cross Traffic Warning does not include automatic braking.

Both the XF and the 3 Series Sedan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

The XF comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 3 Series Sedan’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XF for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than BMW pays for maintenance for the 3 Series Sedan (5/60,000 vs. 3/36,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar above average in initial quality. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated lower.

The XF P300’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 41 more horsepower (296 vs. 255) than the 330i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

The XF has 3.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the 3 Series Sedan (19.5 vs. 15.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar XF higher (7 out of 10) than the BMW 3 Series Sedan (5 to 7). This means the XF produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 3 Series Sedan every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the XF has larger standard tires than the 3 Series Sedan (245/40R19 vs. 225/45R18). The XF’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 3 Series Sedan (255/35R20 vs. 225/40R19).

The XF’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 3 Series Sedan’s standard 45 series tires. The XF’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the 3 Series Sedan’s optional 40 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XF has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the 3 Series Sedan. The XF’s optional 20-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the 3 Series Sedan.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the XF’s wheelbase is 4.3 inches longer than on the 3 Series Sedan (116.5 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the XF is .9 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 3 Series Sedan.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the XF uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The 3 Series Sedan doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the 3 Series Sedan, the XF has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The XF’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The 3 Series Sedan doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the XF to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The 3 Series Sedan doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The XF SE/R-Dynamic offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The 3 Series Sedan doesn’t offer headlight washers.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XF SE/R-Dynamic to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The 3 Series Sedan doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The XF has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the 3 Series Sedan.
