Compare the2024 Jaguar XF VS 2023 Audi S5 Sportback

The XF has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the S5 Sportback’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the XF has standard Rear Traffic Warning and Rear Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Audi charges extra for rear cross-path warning on the S5 Sportback.

The XF’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The S5 Sportback doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the XF and the S5 Sportback have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

The XF comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The S5 Sportback’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XF for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the S5 Sportback.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar above average in initial quality. With 36 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

On the EPA test cycle the XF gets better mileage than the S5 Sportback:

The XF has 4.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the S5 Sportback (19.5 vs. 15.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar XF higher (7 out of 10) than the Audi S5 Sportback (5). This means the XF produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the S5 Sportback every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the XF’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the S5 Sportback:

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the XF uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The S5 Sportback doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The XF has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The S5 Sportback doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the S5 Sportback, the XF has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The XF’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The S5 Sportback doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The XF’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The S5 Sportback’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The XF SE/R-Dynamic offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The S5 Sportback doesn’t offer headlight washers.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XF SE/R-Dynamic to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The S5 Sportback doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The XF has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the S5 Sportback.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar XF has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the S5 Sportback Premium Plus/Prestige offers wireless charging.

The XF is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The S5 Sportback doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
