The Corvette E-Ray has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Portofino doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Corvette’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Portofino.

Both the Corvette and the Portofino have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Corvette 2 years longer than Ferrari covers the Portofino. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Portofino ends after only 3 years.

The Corvette’s corrosion warranty is 3 years longer than the Portofino’s (6 vs. 3 years).

There are over 63 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Ferrari dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Corvette’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Corvette first among compact premium sporty cars in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The Portofino isn’t in the top three in its category.

Engine

The Corvette E-Ray’s standard 6.2 V8 hybrid produces 43 more horsepower (655 vs. 612) than the Portofino’s 3.9 turbo V8. The Corvette Z06’s standard 5.5 DOHC V8 produces 58 more horsepower (670 vs. 612) than the Portofino’s 3.9 turbo V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Corvette gets better mileage than the Portofino:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Corvette (except Z06)’s fuel efficiency. The Portofino doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Drivetrain

All wheel drive, available in the Corvette, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Ferrari Portofino is not available with all wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Corvette Z06/E-Ray CCB’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Portofino:

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Corvette has standard Brake Assist to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Portofino doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Corvette Z06/E-Ray’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Portofino (F:275/30R20 & R:345/25R21 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:285/35R20).

The Corvette’s standard 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Portofino’s standard 35 series tires. The Corvette Z06/E-Ray’s 275/30R20 front and 345/25R21 rear tires have a lower 30 series front and 25 series rear profile than the Portofino’s 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Corvette Z06/E-Ray has standard 21-inch rear wheels. The Portofino’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Corvette has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Portofino doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the Corvette can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Portofino doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Corvette’s wheelbase is 2.1 inches longer than on the Portofino (107.2 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Corvette is 1.3 inches wider in the front than the track on the Portofino.

Chassis

The Chevrolet Corvette may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 250 pounds less than the Ferrari Portofino.

The Corvette uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Portofino doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Cargo Capacity

The Corvette Convertible has a much larger trunk with its top down than the Portofino with its top down (12.6 vs. 5 cubic feet). The Corvette Convertible has a much larger trunk than the Portofino with its top up (12.6 vs. 10.3 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The Corvette has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Portofino doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Portofino, the Corvette offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, suspension setting and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Corvette’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Portofino does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Corvette offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, turn signal and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Portofino doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Corvette’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Portofino’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

On a hot day the Corvette’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Portofino can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

On a hot day the Corvette has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The Portofino doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to enter the car, turn the ignition on and lower the top.

Keyless Open and Start standard on the Corvette allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Ferrari Portofino’s Keyless Entry and Ignition doesn’t unlock the trunk.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Corvette has standard extendable sun visors. The Portofino doesn’t offer extendable visors.

On extremely cold winter days, the Corvette’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Portofino doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Corvette’s standard steering wheel mounted cruise control on/off switch is conveniently located with the rest of the cruise controls. The Portofino’s standard cruise control must be turned on with a hard to find switch on the dashboard.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Chevrolet Corvette offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console and for the rear passengers. The Portofino doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Model Availability

The Chevrolet Corvette comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Ferrari Portofino isn’t available as a coupe.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Chevrolet Corvette, based on reliability, safety and performance.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Corvette second among compact premium sporty cars in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Portofino isn’t in the top three.

The Corvette was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023 and 18 more times in the last 26 years. The Portofino has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the Corvette as their 2020 Car of the Year. The Portofino has never been chosen.
