Both the F-Type and the AMG SL have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The F-Type comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG SL’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

The F-Type’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the AMG SL’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the F-Type for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG SL.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar above average in initial quality. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is rated below average.

The F-Type R75’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 106 more horsepower (575 vs. 469) than the AMG SL 55’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

For better traction and acceleration, the F-Type has larger rear tires than the AMG SL (305/30R20 vs. 295/35R20).

The F-Type’s 265/35R20 front and 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG SL’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better maneuverability, the F-Type’s turning circle is 5.8 feet tighter than the AMG SL’s (34.9 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The F-Type AWD’s turning circle is 3.7 feet tighter than the AMG SL’s (37 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Jaguar F-Type may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 550 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG SL.

The F-Type is 9.2 inches shorter than the AMG SL, making the F-Type easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The F-Type has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG SL doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Jaguar F-Type comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Mercedes AMG SL isn’t available as a coupe.

The F-Type is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The AMG SL doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
