Compare the2024 Jaguar E-PaceVS 2024 Cadillac XT5

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar E-Pace have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Cadillac XT5 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the E-Pace and XT5 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The E-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The XT5’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the E-Pace deploy with different levels of force to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The E-Pace’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The XT5’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the E-Pace. But it costs extra on the XT5.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the E-Pace’s standard All Surface Progress Control allows you to creep down safely. The XT5 doesn’t offer All Surface Progress Control.

The E-Pace has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. Only the XT5 Premium Luxury/Sport offers a blind spot warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the E-Pace has standard Rear Traffic Warning and Rear Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Only the XT5 Premium Luxury/Sport offers Rear Cross Traffic Alert and the XT5’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert does not include automatic braking.

The E-Pace’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The XT5 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the E-Pace and the XT5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

The E-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The XT5’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the E-Pace for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the XT5.

The E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 11 more horsepower (246 vs. 235) and 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 258) than the XT5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

On the EPA test cycle the E-Pace gets better mileage than the XT5:

Regenerative brakes improve the E-Pace’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The XT5 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar E-Pace higher (7 out of 10) than the Cadillac XT5 (6 to 7). This means the E-Pace produces up to 1.1 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the XT5 every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the E-Pace’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XT5 (245/45R20 vs. 235/65R18).

The E-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XT5’s standard 65 series tires. The E-Pace’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the XT5’s optional 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the E-Pace has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the XT5. The E-Pace’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the XT5.

For better maneuverability, the E-Pace’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the XT5’s (38.1 feet vs. 38.7 feet). The E-Pace’s turning circle is .9 feet tighter than the XT5 w/20” wheels’ (38.1 feet vs. 39 feet).

For greater off-road capability the E-Pace has a greater minimum ground clearance than the XT5 (8 vs. 7.8 inches), allowing the E-Pace to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The E-Pace is 1 foot, 4.6 inches shorter than the XT5, making the E-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the E-Pace SE is quieter than the XT5 AWD (76 vs. 77 dB).

The E-Pace’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the XT5’s (3968 vs. 1000 pounds).

The E-Pace’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The XT5’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The E-Pace’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The XT5’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the E-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The XT5 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar E-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the XT5 Premium Luxury/Sport offers wireless charging.
