Compare the2024 Ford EdgeVS 2023 Lincoln Corsair

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Edge. But it costs extra on the Corsair.

Both the Edge and the Corsair have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available front and rear parking sensors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Ford Edge is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Ford Edge is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

Instrumented handling tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and analysis of its dimensions indicate that the Edge is 1.4% to 1.9% less likely to roll over than the Corsair.

There are over 4 times as many Ford dealers as there are Lincoln dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Edge’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. With 7 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Ford higher than Lincoln.

The Edge’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 5 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 275) than the Corsair’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Edge ST’s standard 2.7 turbo V6 produces 69 more horsepower (335 vs. 266) than the Corsair Grand Touring’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the Edge ST 2.7 turbo V6 is faster than the Lincoln Corsair turbo 4 cyl.:

The Edge has 7.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair Grand Touring’s standard fuel tank (18.5 vs. 11.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Edge has 2.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair’s standard fuel tank (18.5 vs. 16.2 gallons).

For better stopping power the Edge’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Corsair:

The Edge ST’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Corsair are solid, not vented.

The Edge stops much shorter than the Corsair:

For better traction, the Edge has larger standard tires than the Corsair (245/60R18 vs. 225/60R18). The Edge ST’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Corsair (265/40R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The Edge ST’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Corsair’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Edge ST offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Corsair’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Edge has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Corsair Grand Touring suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Edge’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Corsair doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Edge’s wheelbase is 5.5 inches longer than on the Corsair (112.2 inches vs. 106.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Edge is 2.2 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than on the Corsair.

The Edge ST handles at .88 G’s, while the Corsair Standard AWD pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Edge ST executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.7 seconds quicker than the Corsair Standard AWD (26 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

The Edge has 11.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Corsair (113.9 vs. 102.5).

The Edge has .7 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front hip room, 3.2 inches more front shoulder room, 1.6 inches more rear headroom, 2 inches more rear legroom, 6.7 inches more rear hip room and 4.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Corsair.

The Edge has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Corsair with its rear seat up (39.2 vs. 27.6 cubic feet). The Edge has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Corsair with its rear seat folded (73.4 vs. 57.6 cubic feet).

Maximum trailer towing in the Lincoln Corsair is limited to 3000 pounds. The Edge offers up to a 3500 lbs. towing capacity.

The Edge (except SE) offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Corsair doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Edge is less expensive to operate than the Corsair because it costs $390 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Edge than the Corsair, including $214 less for a water pump, $35 less for front brake pads, $253 less for a starter, $160 less for fuel injection, $199 less for a fuel pump, $25 less for front struts and $313 less for a power steering pump.
