With its standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, the Hyundai Palisade is better at preventing collisions with pedestrians than the Genesis GV80, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

Compared to metal, the Palisade’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Genesis GV80 has a metal gas tank.

Both the Palisade and the GV80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Hyundai Palisade is safer than the Genesis GV80:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Hyundai Palisade is safer than the Genesis GV80:

There are over 3 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Palisade’s warranty.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Palisade has a 180-amp alternator. The GV80’s standard 150-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Palisade’s reliability 38 points higher than the GV80.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in reliability, above the industry average. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is ranked fourth.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai 7 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

On the EPA test cycle the Palisade gets better mileage than the GV80:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Hyundai Palisade uses regular unleaded gasoline. The GV80 2.5T requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Hyundai Palisade higher (6 out of 10) than the Genesis GV80 (5). This means the Palisade produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the GV80 every 15,000 miles.

The Palisade stops shorter than the GV80:

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Palisade is 1.3 inches wider in the front and 1.1 inches wider in the rear than on the GV80.

The Palisade Calligraphy HTRAC handles at .82 G’s, while the GV80 Standard pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Palisade Calligraphy HTRAC executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the GV80 Standard (27 seconds @ .63 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Palisade’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the GV80’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.3 feet).

The Hyundai Palisade may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 600 pounds less than the Genesis GV80.

The Palisade has standard seating for 8 passengers; the GV80 can only carry up to 7.

The Palisade has 15.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the GV80 (155.3 vs. 140).

The Palisade has .5 inches more front headroom, 2.5 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more front shoulder room, 1.7 inches more rear headroom, 3.7 inches more rear legroom, 2.6 inches more rear shoulder room, 3.5 inches more third row headroom, 1.1 inches more third row legroom and 2 inches more third row shoulder room than the GV80.

The Palisade’s cargo area provides more volume than the GV80.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Palisade easier. The Palisade’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.6 inches, while the GV80’s liftover is 31.7 inches.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Palisade uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV80 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Consumer Reports rated the Palisade’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the GV80’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Palisade’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the GV80’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

The Palisade SEL/XRT/Limited/Calligraphy has standard heated front seats and second and third row heated seats also available, which keep the driver and passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Genesis doesn’t offer heated seats in the third row of the GV80.

The Palisade is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The GV80 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Hyundai Palisade, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Genesis GV80 isn't recommended.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Palisade second among upper midsize suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The GV80 isn’t in the top three in its category.

The Hyundai Palisade outsold the Genesis GV80 by almost five to one during 2023.
