The Nissan Titan XD has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Ram HD doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Full-time four-wheel drive is standard on the Titan XD. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Ram HD. Four-wheel drive of any type costs extra on the Ram HD.

The Titan XD’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Ram HD.

The Titan XD has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Ram HD’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Titan XD has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Ram charges extra for Rear Cross Path Detection on the Ram HD.

The Titan XD’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Ram HD doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Titan XD and the Ram HD have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available daytime running lights and around view monitors.

The Titan XD comes with a full 5-year/100,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The HD’s 3-year basic warranty expires 2 years or 64000 miles sooner.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the Titan XD has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engine in the Ram HD.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Titan XD has a 200-amp alternator. The Ram HD’s standard 180-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Titan XD second among large light duty pickups in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The Ram HD isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ram With 61 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Nissan higher than Ram.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ram vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 1 place higher in reliability than Ram.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Nissan Titan XD, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Ram HD.

The Titan XD stops much shorter than the Ram HD:

For better traction, the Titan XD has larger standard tires than the Ram HD (245/75R17 vs. 235/80R17).

The Titan XD’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 75 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ram HD DRW’s standard 80 series tires.

The Nissan Titan XD’s independent front suspension is much lighter than the Ram HD’s solid front axle, which allows the Titan XD’s wheels to react more quickly and accurately to the road’s surface, improving both ride and handling.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Titan XD’s wheelbase is 2.6 inches longer than on the Ram HD 2500 Standard Box Crew Cab (151.6 inches vs. 149 inches).

The Titan XD Platinum handles at .75 G’s, while the Ram HD 3500 Long Box Limited Crew Cab 4x4 pulls only .61 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Titan XD Platinum executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2 seconds quicker than the Ram HD 3500 Long Box Limited Crew Cab 4x4 (28.2 seconds @ .6 average G’s vs. 30.2 seconds @ .53 average G’s).

The Titan XD is 9.7 inches narrower on average than the Ram HD, making the Titan XD easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The front step up height for the Titan XD is 2.5 inches lower than the Ram HD Crew Cab (24” vs. 26.5”). The Titan XD’s rear step up height is 1.2 inches lower than the Ram HD Crew Cab’s (25.8” vs. 27”).

The Titan XD has a much larger cargo box than the Ram HD Crew Cab shortbed (59.6 vs. 57.5 cubic feet).

The Nissan Titan XD has a standard tailgate assist feature, which prevents the heavy tailgate from falling with a crash and causing injury. It allows adults and children to easily open and close the tailgate with one hand to better facilitate loading and unloading. Tailgate assist costs extra on the Ram HD, and isn’t available on the Ram HD Tradesman.

The Titan XD’s standard power windows allow the driver or passenger to lower and raise the windows without leaning over or being distracted. Power windows cost extra on the Ram HD.

The Titan XD’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Ram HD’s basic optional power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

If the front windows are left open on the Titan XD the driver can close them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Ram HD can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Titan XD’s standard power locks allow the driver or passenger to lock or unlock all the doors at a touch without leaning over, or reaching to the back seat. Power locks cost extra on the Ram HD.

The Titan XD has standard power remote mirrors. The Ram HD only comes with remote mirrors at extra cost. Without them the driver will have to roll down the windows and reach across the car to adjust the mirrors.

The Titan XD’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Ram charges extra for heated mirrors on the Ram HD.
