The Nissan Titan XD has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Titan XD. But it costs extra on the Ram 1500.

The Titan XD’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Ram 1500.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Titan XD has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Ram charges extra for Rear Cross Path Detection on the Ram 1500.

The Titan XD’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Titan XD and the Ram 1500 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available daytime running lights and around view monitors.

The Nissan Titan XD weighs 930 to 2066 pounds more than the Ram 1500. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Titan XD comes with a full 5-year/100,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 1500’s 3-year basic warranty expires 2 years or 64000 miles sooner.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the Titan XD has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the 5.7 V8 hybrid in the Ram 1500.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Titan XD has a 200-amp alternator. The Ram 1500’s standard 160-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ram With 61 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Nissan higher than Ram.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ram vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 1 place higher in reliability than Ram.

The Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 95 more horsepower (400 vs. 305) and 142 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 271) than the Ram 1500’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6 hybrid. The Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8 produces 5 more horsepower (400 vs. 395) and 3 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 410) than the Ram 1500’s optional 5.7 V8 hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the Nissan Titan XD is faster than the Ram 1500 V6 hybrid gas:

The Titan XD has 3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Ram 1500’s standard fuel tank (26 vs. 23 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Nissan Titan XD, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Ram 1500.

The Titan XD stops much shorter than the Ram 1500:

The Titan XD Platinum handles at .75 G’s, while the Ram 1500 short bed Rebel Crew Cab Pickup 4x4 pulls only .68 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Titan XD Platinum executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.6 seconds quicker than the Ram 1500 short bed Rebel Crew Cab Pickup 4x4 (28.2 seconds @ .6 average G’s vs. 29.8 seconds @ .57 average G’s).

The Titan XD has a much larger cargo box than the Ram 1500 Crew Cab Pickup shortbed (59.6 vs. 53.9 cubic feet).

The Nissan Titan XD has a standard tailgate assist feature, which prevents the heavy tailgate from falling with a crash and causing injury. It allows adults and children to easily open and close the tailgate with one hand to better facilitate loading and unloading. Tailgate assist costs extra on the Ram 1500.

The Titan XD has stake post holes, to allow the containment of tall, light loads. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer stake post holes.

The Titan XD’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Ram 1500’s (11050 vs. 6120 pounds).

The Titan XD has a much higher standard payload capacity than the Ram 1500 short bed Crew Cab Pickup 4x4 (2260 vs. 1840 lbs.).

The Titan XD has a much higher optional payload capacity than the Ram 1500 short bed Crew Cab Pickup 4x4 (2260 vs. 1860 lbs.).

The Titan XD (except SV)’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

If the front windows are left open on the Titan XD the driver can close them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Ram 1500 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Insurance will cost less for the Titan XD owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Titan XD with a number “8” insurance rate while the Ram 1500 is rated higher at a number “10” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Titan XD is less expensive to operate than the Ram 1500 because typical repairs cost less on the Titan XD than the Ram 1500, including $106 less for a water pump.
