For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Nissan Titan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Ram 1500 TRX doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Nissan Titan has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Titan’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the 1500 TRX.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Titan has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Ram charges extra for Rear Cross Path Detection on the 1500 TRX.

The Titan’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Titan and the 1500 TRX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, daytime running lights and around view monitors.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and its standard front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Titan the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 231 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The 1500 TRX has not been tested, yet.

The Titan comes with a full 5-year/100,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 1500 TRX’s 3-year basic warranty expires 2 years or 64000 miles sooner.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the Titan has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engine in the 1500 TRX.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Titan second among large light duty pickups in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The 1500 TRX isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ram With 61 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Nissan higher than Ram.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ram vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 1 place higher in reliability than Ram.

On the EPA test cycle the Titan gets better mileage than the 1500 TRX:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Titan uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The 1500 TRX requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Nissan Titan higher (5 out of 10) than the Ram 1500 TRX (1). This means the Titan produces up to 39 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 1500 TRX every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Nissan Titan, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the 1500 TRX.

The Titan stops shorter than the 1500 TRX:

The Titan’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 1500 TRX’s 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Titan offers optional 20-inch wheels. The 1500 TRX’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.

The Titan Crew Cab 4x4 handles at .74 G’s, while the 1500 TRX pulls only .67 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Nissan Titan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 950 pounds less than the Ram 1500 TRX.

The Titan Crew Cab is 4.7 inches shorter than the 1500 TRX, making the Titan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Titan is 7.9 inches narrower on average than the 1500 TRX, making the Titan easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the Titan has an electronically controlled liquid-filled front engine mount. A computer-controlled electric current in the liquid changes its viscosity, allowing the mount to dampen the engine completely at all RPMs. The 1500 TRX uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The front grille of the Titan uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Nissan Titan has a standard tailgate assist feature, which prevents the heavy tailgate from falling with a crash and causing injury. It allows adults and children to easily open and close the tailgate with one hand to better facilitate loading and unloading. The Ram 1500 TRX doesn’t offer a tailgate assist.

The Nissan Titan SV/PRO-4X/Platinum Reserve offers an optional rear cargo step, which allows for much easier access to the cargo area. The Ram 1500 TRX doesn’t offer a rear cargo step.

The Titan has stake post holes, to allow the containment of tall, light loads. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer stake post holes.

The Titan’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the 1500 TRX’s (9130 vs. 8100 pounds).

The Titan Crew Cab 4x4 has a much higher standard payload capacity than the 1500 TRX (1650 vs. 1310 lbs.).

The Titan has a much higher maximum payload capacity than the 1500 TRX (1710 vs. 1310 lbs.).

The Titan (except SV)’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

If the front windows are left open on the Titan the driver can close them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the 1500 TRX can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Titan’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The 1500 TRX offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Nissan Titan comes in extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the Ram 1500 TRX isn’t available as an extended cab.

The Titan is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
