Compare the2024 Nissan GT-RVS 2022 McLaren 720S

The GT-R has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The 720S doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The GT-R has standard NissanConnect Services, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The 720S doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the GT-R and the 720S have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The Nissan GT-R weighs 620 to 796 pounds more than the McLaren 720S. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Nissan’s powertrain warranty covers the GT-R 2 years longer than McLaren covers the 720S. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the 720S ends after only 3 years.

There are over 43 times as many Nissan dealers as there are McLaren dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GT-R’s warranty.

The 720S’ redline is at 8500 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The GT-R has a 7100 RPM redline.

On the EPA test cycle the GT-R gets better mileage than the 720S:

All wheel drive, available in the GT-R, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The McLaren 720S is not available with all wheel drive.

For better stopping power the GT-R NISMO/T-Spec’s brake rotors are larger than those on the 720S:

For better traction, the GT-R has larger front tires than the 720S (255/40R20 vs. 245/35R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GT-R has standard 20-inch wheels. Only 19-inch front wheels are available on the 720S.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the GT-R can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The 720S doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GT-R’s wheelbase is 4.3 inches longer than on the 720S (109.4 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

The GT-R’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (54.7% to 45.3%) than the 720S’ (42% to 58%). This gives the GT-R more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the GT-R’s turning circle is 3.1 feet tighter than the 720S’ (36.6 feet vs. 39.7 feet). The GT-R NISMO’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the 720S’ (37.4 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The GT-R uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The 720S doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The GT-R has standard seating for 4 passengers; the 720S can only carry 2.

The GT-R has 31 cubic feet more passenger volume than the 720S (79 vs. 48).

The GT-R has .6 inches more front headroom, 2.2 inches more front legroom and 11.9 inches more front shoulder room than the 720S.

The GT-R’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The 720S does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The GT-R’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them. McLaren does not offer a locking feature on the 720S’ standard power windows.

The GT-R’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The 720S’ visors are fixed into the windshield header.

To help keep the driver’s hands on the wheel, the GT-R has standard steering wheel controls for the radio. The 720S doesn’t offer steering wheel audio controls.

Standard smartphone integration for the GT-R allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones, including reading text messages aloud, playing internet radio stations and other connected activities without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The 720S doesn’t offer factory integrated smartphone program access.
