Safety

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the GT-R. But it costs extra on the Corvette.

The GT-R has standard Front and Rear Sonar System to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or in front of their vehicle. The Corvette doesn’t offer a front parking aid.

Both the GT-R and the Corvette have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

Warranty

The GT-R’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Corvette’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Reliability

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the GT-R have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Corvette.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 5 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

Engine

The GT-R has more powerful engines than the Corvette:

Horsepower

Torque

GT-R 3.8 turbo V6

565 HP

467 lbs.-ft.

GT-R NISMO 3.8 turbo V6

600 HP

481 lbs.-ft.

Corvette 6.2 V8

490 HP

470 lbs.-ft.

Corvette E-Ray 6.2 V8 hybrid

655 HP

Corvette Z06 5.5 DOHC V8

670 HP

460 lbs.-ft.

As tested in Motor Trend the Nissan GT-R (base engine) is faster than the Corvette Z51 6.2 V8:

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the GT-R gets better mileage than the Corvette:

12 city/21 hwy

Carbon Aero 5.5 DOHC V8

12 city/19 hwy

The GT-R has a gallon more fuel capacity than the Corvette (19.5 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the GT-R’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Corvette:

The GT-R’s brakes have 12% more swept area (the area covered by the brake pads) than the Corvette (719 vs. 640 square inches), so the GT-R has more braking power available.

The GT-R stops much shorter than the Corvette:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the GT-R has larger front tires than the Corvette (255/40R20 vs. 245/35R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GT-R has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch front wheels are standard on the Corvette.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GT-R’s wheelbase is 2.2 inches longer than on the Corvette (109.4 inches vs. 107.2 inches).

The GT-R’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (54.7% to 45.3%) than the Corvette’s (40% to 60%). This gives the GT-R more stable handling and braking.

The GT-R NISMO handles at 1.02 G’s, while the Corvette Coupe pulls only 1.01 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The GT-R NISMO executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Corvette Coupe (22.9 seconds @ .92 average G’s vs. 23.4 seconds @ .86 average G’s).

Chassis

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the GT-R has a liquid-filled front engine mount. The liquid helps further dampen engine harshness. The Corvette uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The design of the Nissan GT-R amounts to more than styling. The GT-R has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Corvette (.32). A more efficient exterior helps the GT-R go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the GT-R get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The GT-R has standard seating for 4 passengers; the Corvette can only carry 2.

The GT-R has 28 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Corvette (79 vs. 51).

The GT-R has .2 inches more front headroom, 1.8 inches more front legroom and 2.7 inches more front hip room than the Corvette.

Cargo Capacity

With its coupe body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the GT-R offers cargo security. The Corvette’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

Ergonomics

The GT-R’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them. Chevrolet does not offer a locking feature on the Corvette’s standard power windows.

The GT-R’s speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Corvette’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.
