For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the GMC Hummer EV SUV are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Chevrolet Bolt doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Hummer EV SUV and Bolt have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Hummer EV SUV has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Bolt’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Hummer EV SUV has standard Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Bolt doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Hummer EV SUV offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Bolt doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Hummer EV SUV has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Bolt’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Hummer EV SUV has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Chevrolet charges extra for Rear Cross Traffic Alert on the Bolt.

The Hummer EV SUV’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Bolt doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Hummer EV SUV and the Bolt have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

Engine

The Hummer EV SUV’s standard electric motors produces 425 more horsepower (625 vs. 200) and 7134 lbs.-ft. more torque (7400 vs. 266) than the Bolt’s electric motor. The Hummer EV SUV 3X’s standard electric motors produces 630 more horsepower (830 vs. 200) and 11234 lbs.-ft. more torque (11500 vs. 266) than the Bolt’s electric motor.

Transmission

The Hummer EV SUV’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Bolt doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Hummer EV SUV’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Bolt:

The Hummer EV SUV’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Bolt are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Hummer EV SUV has larger tires than the Bolt (305/55R22 vs. 215/50R17).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Hummer EV SUV has standard 18-inch wheels. Only 17-inch wheels are available on the Bolt. The Hummer EV SUV has standard 22-inch wheels.

The GMC Hummer EV SUV’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Chevrolet Bolt only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Hummer EV SUV has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Bolt; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

For superior ride and handling, the GMC Hummer EV SUV has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Chevrolet Bolt has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The Hummer EV SUV has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Hummer EV SUV flat and controlled during cornering. The Bolt’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The Hummer EV SUV offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Bolt’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Hummer EV SUV 2X/3X has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Hummer EV SUV’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Bolt doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Hummer EV SUV’s wheelbase is 24.3 inches longer than on the Bolt (126.7 inches vs. 102.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Hummer EV SUV is 14.3 inches wider in the front and 14.3 inches wider in the rear than on the Bolt.

The Hummer EV SUV 2X/3X Extract’s minimum ground clearance is 10.6 inches higher than on the Bolt (16 vs. 5.4 inches).

Chassis

The front grille of the Hummer EV SUV uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Bolt doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Hummer EV SUV has 2.4 inches more front headroom, 1.3 inches more front legroom, 9.2 inches more front hip room, 9.2 inches more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear headroom, 3 inches more rear legroom, 9.6 inches more rear hip room and 11.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Bolt.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Hummer EV SUV’s rear seats recline. The Bolt’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Hummer EV SUV has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Bolt with its rear seat up (35.9 vs. 16.6 cubic feet). The Hummer EV SUV has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Bolt with its rear seat folded (81.8 vs. 57 cubic feet).

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the Hummer EV SUV’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Bolt doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Hummer EV SUV. The Bolt doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Hummer EV SUV’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the right swing out door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Bolt’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Hummer EV SUV has a standard power cargo door, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Bolt doesn’t offer a power liftgate.

Towing

The Hummer EV SUV has a 6000 lbs. towing capacity. The Bolt has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Hummer EV SUV uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Bolt doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Servicing Ease

The Hummer EV SUV uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Bolt uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

When two different drivers share the Hummer EV SUV, the memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The Bolt doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Hummer EV SUV’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Bolt doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

On a hot day the Hummer EV SUV’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Bolt can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Hummer EV SUV’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Bolt’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

When the Hummer EV SUV is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Bolt’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Hummer EV SUV’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Bolt offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Hummer EV SUV has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the Bolt. The Hummer EV SUV also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Bolt.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Hummer EV SUV keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Bolt doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Hummer EV SUV has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Bolt.

The Hummer EV SUV’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Bolt doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

Both the Hummer EV SUV and the Bolt offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the Hummer EV SUV has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The Bolt doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the GMC Hummer EV SUV has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Bolt.

The Hummer EV SUV has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Bolt doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Hummer EV SUV’s Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Bolt doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
