For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Chevrolet Silverado Limited doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.
Both the Hummer EV Pickup and Silverado Limited have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Hummer EV Pickup has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Silverado Limited’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.
Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Hummer EV Pickup has standard Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.
To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Hummer EV Pickup. But it costs extra on the Silverado Limited.
The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Silverado Limited and is only available on Silverado Limited LTZ/High Country.
To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Hummer EV Pickup has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Chevrolet charges extra for rear cross-path warning on the Silverado Limited and its not available on the Custom.
The Hummer EV Pickup’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.
Both the Hummer EV Pickup and the Silverado Limited have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.
The GMC Hummer EV Pickup weighs 3476 to 4496 pounds more than the Chevrolet Silverado Limited. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
