Compare the2024 Cadillac XT6VS 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the XT6 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Cadillac XT6 has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport offers optional Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The XT6 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Range Rover Sport’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the XT6 has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Land Rover charges extra for rear cross-path warning on the Range Rover Sport.

Both the XT6 and the Range Rover Sport have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Acceptable” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the XT6 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 128 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Sport has not been tested, yet.

Cadillac’s powertrain warranty covers the XT6 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Land Rover covers the Range Rover Sport. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Range Rover Sport ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 3 times as many Cadillac dealers as there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the XT6’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the XT6 first among upper midsize premium suvs in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The Range Rover Sport isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are better in initial quality than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac above average in initial quality. With 33 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac above average in long-term dependability. With 24 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Land Rover is rated below average.

On the EPA test cycle the XT6 gets better mileage than the Range Rover Sport:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the XT6’s fuel efficiency. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Cadillac XT6 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine for maximum performance). The Range Rover Sport requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

The XT6 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Cadillac XT6 higher (6 to 7 out of 10) than the Land Rover Range Rover Sport (3 to 7). This means the XT6 produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Range Rover Sport every 15,000 miles.

The EPA certifies the Cadillac XT6 as an “Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle” (ULEV). The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is only certified to “Low Emissions Vehicle” (LEV) standards.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac XT6, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Range Rover Sport.

The XT6 stops shorter than the Range Rover Sport:

The Cadillac XT6’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The XT6 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The XT6 Sport AWD handles at .88 G’s, while the Range Rover Sport HSE pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The XT6 Sport AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Range Rover Sport HSE (27.2 seconds @ .67 average G’s vs. 27.6 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the XT6’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the Range Rover Sport’s (38.7 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Cadillac XT6 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 750 pounds less than the Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

The front grille of the XT6 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The XT6 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The XT6 has 21.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Range Rover Sport (149.9 vs. 128).

The XT6 has .3 inches more front headroom, 1.7 inches more front legroom and 2.1 inches more rear legroom than the Range Rover Sport.

The XT6’s cargo area provides more volume than the Range Rover Sport.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the XT6’s second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Cadillac service is better than Land Rover. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac second in service department satisfaction. With a 65% lower rating, Land Rover is ranked 30th.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the XT6 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the XT6 has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer extendable visors.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional Automatic Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting and stopping automatically, with the driver only responsible for switching from reverse to drive. The Range Rover Sport’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

The XT6 is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the XT6 is less expensive to operate than the Range Rover Sport because it costs $27 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the XT6 than the Range Rover Sport, including $42 less for front brake pads, $275 less for a starter, $229 less for fuel injection, $281 less for a fuel pump, $247 less for front struts and $254 less for a timing belt/chain.

The Cadillac XT6 outsold the Land Rover Range Rover Sport by over two to one during 2022.
