Compare the2024 Cadillac CT5VS 2023 Genesis G90

The Cadillac CT5 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The G90 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Both the CT5 and the G90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

There are over 83 percent more Cadillac dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the CT5’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the CT5 second among midsize premium cars in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The G90 isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are better in initial quality than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac above average in initial quality. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is rated lower.

The CT5’s optional 3.0 turbo V6 produces 14 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 391) than the G90 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the CT5’s fuel efficiency. The G90 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The CT5 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The G90 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac CT5, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the G90.

The CT5 stops much shorter than the G90:

For better traction, the CT5’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the G90 (255/35R20 vs. 245/45R20).

The CT5’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G90 3.5T e-SC’s 40 series front tires.

The CT5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The G90 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the CT5 can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The G90 doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The CT5 Sport handles at .88 G’s, while the G90 3.5T e-SC pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Cadillac CT5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1200 to 1350 pounds less than the Genesis G90.

The CT5 is 1 foot, 1.9 inches shorter than the G90, making the CT5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the CT5 (except Premium Luxury/Sport) uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The G90 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The CT5 has .1 inches more front legroom and .1 inches more rear legroom than the G90.

The CT5’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The G90 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

The CT5 has a 1000 lbs. towing capacity. The G90 has no towing capacity.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the CT5 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes and air filter replacement based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Genesis doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the G90.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Cadillac service is better than Genesis. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac second in service department satisfaction. With a 44% lower rating, Genesis is ranked 23rd.

The CT5’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The G90 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The G90 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The CT5 is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The G90 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Insurance will cost less for the CT5 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the CT5 will cost $5900 to $7810 less than the G90 over a five-year period.

The CT5 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the CT5 will retain 49.33% to 50.43% of its original price after five years, while the G90 only retains 42.39% to 42.41%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Cadillac CT5 will be $53544 to $54767 less than for the Genesis G90.

The Cadillac CT5 outsold the Genesis G90 by almost 14 to one during 2022.
