Compare the2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5VS 2023 Kia EV6

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Kia EV6 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Ioniq 5’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The EV6 doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the EV6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its performance in IIHS driver-side and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, updated side impact, headlight, daytime pedestrian crash prevention, and nighttime pedestrian crash prevention testing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Ioniq 5 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2023, a rating granted to only 50 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The EV6 has not been fully tested, yet.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the EV6’s (7/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Kia doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the EV6.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The EV6 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ioniq 5’s wheelbase is 3.9 inches longer than on the EV6 (118.1 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

The Ioniq 5 Limited AWD handles at .88 G’s, while the EV6 GT pulls only .87 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the Ioniq 5 Limited AWD is quieter than the EV6 GT (67 vs. 69 dB).

The Ioniq 5 has 3.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the EV6 (106.5 vs. 103).

The Ioniq 5 has .8 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more rear headroom, .4 inches more rear legroom, .4 inches more rear hip room and 2.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the EV6.

The Ioniq 5 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the EV6 with its rear seat up (27.2 vs. 24.4 cubic feet). The Ioniq 5 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the EV6 with its rear seat folded (59.3 vs. 50.2 cubic feet).

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Ioniq 5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The EV6 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.
