Compare the2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5VS 2023 Jaguar I-Pace

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Ioniq 5 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Ioniq 5 Limited has standard Parking Collision Avoidance Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Ioniq 5’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The I-Pace doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Ioniq 5 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 128 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The I-Pace has not been tested, yet.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 5 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jaguar covers the I-Pace. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the I-Pace ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the I-Pace’s (7 vs. 6 years).

There are over 4 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Ioniq 5’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Ioniq 5’s reliability 11 points higher than the I-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in reliability, above the industry average. With 85 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 26th.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The I-Pace doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Ioniq 5 Limited AWD handles at .88 G’s, while the I-Pace HSE pulls only .87 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Ioniq 5’s turning circle is 1.2 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (39.3 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 50 to 750 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The Ioniq 5 has .8 inches more front legroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, 4.4 inches more rear legroom and 3.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Ioniq 5’s rear seats recline. The I-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Ioniq 5 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (27.2 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The Ioniq 5 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (59.3 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

Maximum trailer towing in the Jaguar I-Pace is limited to 1653 pounds. The Ioniq 5 offers up to a 2300 lbs. towing capacity.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Ioniq 5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The I-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The I-Pace’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

The Ioniq 5 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Hyundai Ioniq 5, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar I-Pace isn't recommended.

The Ioniq 5 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023 and 2022. The I-Pace has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
