For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Genesis GV70 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the GV70 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Genesis GV70 has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The GV70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The Range Rover Sport’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GV70 Advanced/Prestige has a standard Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Both the GV70 and the Range Rover Sport have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the GV70 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 128 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Sport has not been tested, yet.

The GV70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Range Rover Sport’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV70 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Land Rover covers the Range Rover Sport. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Range Rover Sport ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The GV70’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Range Rover Sport’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Land Rover doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Range Rover Sport.

There are over 54 percent more Genesis dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GV70’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the GV70’s reliability 21 points higher than the Range Rover Sport.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 27 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 129 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 32nd.

As tested in Car and Driver the Genesis GV70 turbo 4 cyl. is faster than the Range Rover Sport P360 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid:

The GV70 Sport’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Sport’s optional 45 series tires.

The GV70 Sport Prestige handles at .86 G’s, while the Range Rover Sport SE pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Genesis GV70 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 800 to 1300 pounds less than the Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

The GV70 is 9.1 inches shorter than the Range Rover Sport, making the GV70 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The GV70 is 11.5 inches narrower than the Range Rover Sport, making the GV70 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The GV70 is 7.5 inches shorter in height than the Range Rover Sport, making the GV70 much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the GV70 Advanced is quieter than the Range Rover Sport SE:

The GV70 has .3 inches more front headroom, 1 inch more front legroom and .4 inches more rear headroom than the Range Rover Sport.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the GV70. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GV70 has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GV70 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The GV70 Sport Advanced/Sport Prestige’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Range Rover Sport’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
