Compare the2024 Genesis GV70VS 2024 Lexus NX

The GV70’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The NX doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the GV70 and NX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The GV70 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The NX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The GV70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The NX doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the GV70. But it costs extra on the NX.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the GV70 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist with automatic braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Parking Support Brake costs extra on the NX.

Both the GV70 and the NX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The GV70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The NX’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV70 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Lexus covers the NX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the NX ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The GV70’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the NX’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV70 for 2 years and 26000 miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the NX (3/36,000 vs. 1/10,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Lexus vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 4 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lexus is ranked 6th.

Both the GV70 and the NX have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All GV70s have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. The NX 350h/450h+ doesn’t offer a way to disable start/stop.

The GV70 has 2.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the NX (17.4 vs. 14.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The GV70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The NX doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the GV70 Sport’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the NX (255/40R21 vs. 235/60R18).

The GV70’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the NX’s standard 60 series tires. The GV70 Sport’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the NX’s optional 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV70 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the NX. The GV70 Sport’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the NX.

The GV70 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the NX; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV70’s wheelbase is 7.3 inches longer than on the NX (113.2 inches vs. 105.9 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the GV70 is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the track on the NX.

The GV70’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (52% to 48%) than the NX’s (57% to 43%). This gives the GV70 more stable handling and braking.

The GV70 Sport Prestige handles at .86 G’s, while the NX 350 AWD pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The GV70 Sport Prestige executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2 seconds quicker than the NX 450h AWD (26.4 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 28.4 seconds @ .57 average G’s).

The design of the Genesis GV70 amounts to more than styling. The GV70 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .32 Cd. That is lower than the NX (.35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the GV70 get better fuel mileage.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the GV70 Advanced is quieter than the NX 350 AWD:

The GV70 has 1.3 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front legroom, 2.8 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, 1.1 inches more rear legroom and 2.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the NX.

The GV70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the NX with its rear seat up (28.9 vs. 22.7 cubic feet). The GV70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the NX with its rear seat folded (56.9 vs. 46.9 cubic feet).

The GV70’s cargo area is larger than the NX’s in almost every dimension:

The GV70’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the NX’s (3500 vs. 0 pounds).

The engine in the GV70 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the NX. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The power windows standard on both the GV70 and the NX have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the GV70 is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The NX prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The GV70’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The NX’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Consumer Reports rated the GV70’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the NX’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GV70 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The NX doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The GV70 Sport Prestige/3.5T has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the NX.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis GV70 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the NX.

The GV70 Advanced/Sport/3.5T has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The NX doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The GV70 Sport Advanced/Sport Prestige’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The NX 350h/450h+’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its December 2023 issue and they ranked the Genesis GV70 Advanced first. They ranked the Lexus NX 350 AWD third.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV70 third among compact premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The NX isn’t in the top three.

The GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2024 and 2023. The NX has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The NX has never been chosen.
