Compare the2024 Genesis GV70VS 2023 Audi A6 Allroad

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the GV70 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The GV70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The A6 Allroad’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

The GV70 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the A6 Allroad’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the GV70 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and automatically engage the brakes. Audi charges extra for Rear Cross-Traffic Assist on the A6 Allroad.

The GV70’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GV70 and the A6 Allroad have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

The GV70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The A6 Allroad’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV70 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Audi covers the A6 Allroad. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the A6 Allroad ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the A6 Allroad.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 45 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 77 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 25th.

The GV70’s optional 3.5 turbo V6 produces 40 more horsepower (375 vs. 335) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 369) than the A6 Allroad’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the Genesis GV70 turbo V6 is faster than the Audi A6 Allroad:

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Genesis GV70, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the A6 Allroad.

For better traction, the GV70 Sport’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the A6 Allroad (255/40R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The GV70 Sport’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A6 Allroad’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV70 Sport offers optional 21-inch wheels. The A6 Allroad’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the GV70 is 0 inches wider in the front and 2.1 inches wider in the rear than the track on the A6 Allroad.

The GV70 Sport Prestige handles at .86 G’s, while the A6 Allroad Prestige pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the GV70’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the A6 Allroad’s (37.7 feet vs. 40 feet).

For greater off-road capability the GV70 has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the A6 Allroad Premium Plus (7.3 vs. 6.1 inches), allowing the GV70 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Genesis GV70 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 300 pounds less than the Audi A6 Allroad.

The GV70 is 9.3 inches shorter than the A6 Allroad, making the GV70 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The GV70 has 3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the A6 Allroad (104 vs. 101).

The GV70 has 1.3 inches more front headroom, 1.3 inches more front shoulder room and .4 inches more rear shoulder room than the A6 Allroad.

The GV70’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The A6 Allroad’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the GV70 has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the A6 Allroad only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The GV70 Advanced/Sport/3.5T has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Genesis GV70 and the Audi A6 Allroad, based on reliability, safety and performance.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV70 third among compact premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The A6 Allroad isn’t in the top three.

The GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The A6 Allroad has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The A6 Allroad has never been chosen.

The Genesis GV70 outsold the Audi A6/S6/RS 6 by over three to one during 2022.
