Compare the2023 Genesis Electrified GV70VS 2023 Polestar 2

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Electrified GV70 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Electrified GV70. But it costs extra on the Polestar 2.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Electrified GV70’s standard Downhill Brake Control allow you to creep down safely. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Polestar 2’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Electrified GV70 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and automatically engage the brakes. Polestar charges extra for Cross Traffic Alert on the Polestar 2.

Both the Electrified GV70 and the Polestar 2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Electrified GV70 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 129 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Polestar 2 has not been tested, yet.

The Electrified GV70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 2’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the Electrified GV70 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Polestar covers the 2. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Polestar 2 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the Electrified GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Polestar doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the 2.

There are almost 12 times as many Genesis dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Electrified GV70’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Polestar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 172 more problems per 100 vehicles, Polestar is ranked 35th, below the industry average.

The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 198 more horsepower (429 vs. 231) and 273 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 243) than the Polestar 2 Single Motor’s standard electric motor. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 21 more horsepower (429 vs. 408) and 29 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 487) than the Polestar 2 Dual Motor’s standard electric motors. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 14 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 502) than the Polestar 2 Dual Motor’s optional electric motors.

As tested in Motor Trend the Genesis Electrified GV70 is faster than the Polestar 2 Dual Motor:

The Electrified GV70 has a standard locking charge port that locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Polestar 2 doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

The Electrified GV70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the Electrified GV70’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Polestar 2:

For better traction, the Electrified GV70 has larger tires than the Polestar 2 (265/45R20 vs. 245/45R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Electrified GV70 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Polestar 2.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Electrified GV70’s wheelbase is 5.6 inches longer than on the Polestar 2 (113.2 inches vs. 107.6 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Electrified GV70 is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 2.2 inches wider in the rear than on the Polestar 2.

For greater off-road capability the Electrified GV70 has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Polestar 2 Performance Package (6.9 vs. 5.7 inches), allowing the Electrified GV70 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Electrified GV70’s minimum ground clearance is 1 inch higher than on the Polestar 2 (6.9 vs. 5.9 inches).

The Electrified GV70 Prestige uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Electrified GV70 has 6.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Polestar 2 (102.8 vs. 96).

The Electrified GV70 has 2.4 inches more front hip room, 4.5 inches more front shoulder room, 1.3 inches more rear headroom, 2.7 inches more rear legroom, 3.6 inches more rear hip room and 4.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Polestar 2.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Electrified GV70’s rear seats recline. The Polestar 2’s rear seats don’t recline.

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the Electrified GV70’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the Electrified GV70. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Electrified GV70’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Polestar 2’s (3500 vs. 2000 pounds).

The Electrified GV70’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Electrified GV70 has a standard rear wiper. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Electrified GV70 has standard extendable sun visors. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Electrified GV70 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Electrified GV70 has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Polestar 2.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis Electrified GV70 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Polestar 2.

The Electrified GV70 has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Electrified GV70’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Electrified GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The Polestar 2 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
