Compare the2023 Fiat 500X VS 2023 Dodge Hornet

Both the 500X and the Hornet have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and with its optional front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the 500X the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 235 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Hornet has not been tested, yet.

The 500X comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Hornet’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

On the EPA test cycle the 500X gets better fuel mileage than the Hornet GT running its gasoline engine (24 city/30 hwy vs. 21 city/29 hwy).

The 500X has 1.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Hornet R/T’s standard fuel tank (12.7 vs. 11.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The 500X has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Hornet doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For better maneuverability, the 500X’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the Hornet’s (36.3 feet vs. 37.9 feet).

For greater off-road capability the 500X has a 1.8 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Hornet R/T (7.9 vs. 6.1 inches), allowing the 500X to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Fiat 500X may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 850 pounds less than the Dodge Hornet.

The 500X is 10.8 inches shorter than the Hornet, making the 500X easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the 500X Sport has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Hornet doesn’t offer cornering lights.
