For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes EQB have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Chevrolet Bolt EUV doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The EQB’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The EQB offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the EQB’s standard Downhill Speed Regulation allows you to creep down safely. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer Downhill Speed Regulation.

The EQB has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Bolt EUV’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the EQB has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Active Brake Assist automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Chevrolet charges extra for Rear Cross Traffic Alert on the Bolt EUV and the Bolt EUV’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert does not include automatic braking.

The EQB’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the EQB and the Bolt EUV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

The Mercedes EQB weighs 782 to 1038 pounds more than the Chevrolet Bolt EUV. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The EQB comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Bolt EUV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The EQB’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Bolt EUV’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Engine

The EQB 250+’s standard electric motor produces 18 lbs.-ft. more torque (284 vs. 266) than the Bolt EUV’s electric motor. The EQB 300’s standard electric motor produces 25 more horsepower (225 vs. 200) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (288 vs. 266) than the Bolt EUV’s electric motor. The EQB 350’s standard electric motor produces 88 more horsepower (288 vs. 200) and 118 lbs.-ft. more torque (384 vs. 266) than the Bolt EUV’s electric motor.

As tested in Car and Driver the EQB 350 is faster than the Chevrolet Bolt EUV:

Fuel Economy and Range

The EQB has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Bolt EUV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the EQB’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Bolt EUV:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the EQB has larger tires than the Bolt EUV (235/50R19 vs. 215/50R17).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EQB has standard 18-inch wheels. Only 17-inch wheels are available on the Bolt EUV. The EQB offers optional 19-inch wheels.

Suspension and Handling

For superior ride and handling, the Mercedes EQB has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Chevrolet Bolt EUV has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The EQB has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the EQB flat and controlled during cornering. The Bolt EUV’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The EQB offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Bolt EUV’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The EQB’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EQB’s wheelbase is 6 inches longer than on the Bolt EUV (111.3 inches vs. 105.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the EQB is 2.9 inches wider in the front and 2.9 inches wider in the rear than on the Bolt EUV.

The EQB 350 4MATIC handles at .85 G’s, while the Bolt EUV Premier pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The EQB 350 4MATIC executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Bolt EUV Premier (27.4 seconds @ .62 average G’s vs. 28.3 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

Passenger Space

The EQB offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the Bolt EUV can only carry 5.

The EQB has .7 inches more front headroom, 1.3 inches more front shoulder room, 1.5 inches more rear headroom and 2.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the Bolt EUV.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EQB’s middle row seats recline. The Bolt EUV’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The EQB’s cargo area provides more volume than the Bolt EUV.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the EQB easier. The EQB’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.5 inches, while the Bolt EUV’s liftover is 30.3 inches.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the EQB. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the EQB has a standard power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button, or optionally by just kicking your foot under the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer a power liftgate.

Servicing Ease

The EQB uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Bolt EUV uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

When three different drivers share the EQB, the memory system makes it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions, suspension setting, power steering assist, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer a memory system.

The EQB’s standard easy entry and exit feature glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The EQB offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The EQB’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Bolt EUV’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The EQB’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Bolt EUV’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the EQB offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer cornering lights. The EQB also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

When the EQB is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Bolt EUV’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

The EQB’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Bolt EUV offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The EQB offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Bolt EUV.

The EQB’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

Both the EQB and the Bolt EUV offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the EQB has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

The EQB offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The EQB’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Bolt EUV doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
