For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Audi SQ8 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The SQ8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the SQ8 Prestige helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the SQ8 and the Range Rover Sport have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Acceptable” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the SQ8 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 128 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Sport has not been tested, yet.

The SQ8’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Range Rover Sport’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 53 percent more Audi dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the SQ8’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover With 52 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Audi higher than Land Rover.

The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 145 more horsepower (500 vs. 355) and 199 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 369) than the Range Rover Sport P360’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 105 more horsepower (500 vs. 395) and 162 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 406) than the Range Rover Sport P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 66 more horsepower (500 vs. 434) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 457) than the Range Rover Sport P440e’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 15 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 553) than the Range Rover Sport P530’s standard 4.4 turbo V8.

As tested in Car and Driver the Audi SQ8 is faster than the Range Rover Sport P360 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid:

The SQ8 has 3.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Range Rover Sport P440e’s standard fuel tank (22.5 vs. 18.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the SQ8’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Range Rover Sport:

For better traction, the SQ8 has larger tires than the Range Rover Sport (285/45R21 vs. 275/50R21).

The SQ8’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Sport’s standard 50 series tires. The SQ8’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Range Rover Sport’s optional 45 series tires.

The SQ8 Prestige handles at .92 G’s, while the Range Rover Sport SE pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The SQ8 is 8.2 inches narrower than the Range Rover Sport, making the SQ8 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The SQ8 has 1.3 inches more front legroom and 2.4 inches more rear legroom than the Range Rover Sport.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the SQ8. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

While the Range Rover Sport P440e can only tow 6613, any SQ8 can tow a minimum of 7700 pounds.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Audi service is better than Land Rover. J.D. Power ranks Audi 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 50% lower rating, Land Rover is ranked 30th.

If the windows are left open on the SQ8 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Range Rover Sport can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the SQ8 has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A manual rear sunshade and power rear side window sunshades are optional in the SQ8 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The SQ8 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Range Rover Sport.

The SQ8 Prestige’s Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist Plus will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Range Rover Sport’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The Audi Q8/SQ8/RS Q8 outsold the Land Rover Range Rover Sport by 11% during 2022.
