For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Nissan Murano are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Murano are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Nissan Murano has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Murano has standard Rear Automatic Braking that use rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Both the Murano and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Murano its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 128 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The I-Pace has not been tested, yet.

There are almost 6 times as many Nissan dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Murano’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Murano’s reliability 34 points higher than the I-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Murano first among midsize suvs in their 2022 Initial Quality Study. The I-Pace isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan above average in initial quality. With 43 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar With 28 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Nissan higher than Jaguar.

The Murano has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The I-Pace doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For better maneuverability, the Murano’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (38.7 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Murano has a greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (6.9 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the Murano to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Nissan Murano may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 to 900 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The Murano has 1.9 inches more front shoulder room, 1.7 inches more rear headroom, 3.7 inches more rear legroom and 4.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Murano’s rear seats recline. The I-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Murano has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (32.1 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The Murano has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (67 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

The Murano’s cargo area is larger than the I-Pace’s in almost every dimension:

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the Murano’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Murano has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Murano is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Insurance will cost less for the Murano owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Murano will cost $5795 to $6575 less than the I-Pace over a five-year period.

The Murano will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Murano will retain 46.1% to 47.26% of its original price after five years, while the I-Pace only retains 42.74%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Nissan Murano will be $22110 to $32102 less than for the Jaguar I-Pace.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Nissan Murano, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar I-Pace isn't recommended.
