The Range Rover Sport’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Range Rover Sport and Cayenne Coupe have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Sport has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Cayenne Coupe’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Range Rover Sport’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Cayenne Coupe.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Cayenne Coupe’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Range Rover Sport’s standard Rear Traffic Monitor uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side and Rear Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The Range Rover Sport’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the Cayenne Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

For better stopping power the Range Rover Sport’s standard front brake rotors are larger than those on the Cayenne Coupe:

Range Rover Sport

Cayenne Coupe

14.2 inches

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Range Rover Sport has a standard Emergency Brake Assist to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Cayenne Coupe; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which has mileage and speed limitations, or roadside assistance and a tow-truck.

The front and rear suspension of the Range Rover Sport uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Cayenne Coupe, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Sport’s wheelbase is 4 inches longer than on the Cayenne Coupe (118 inches vs. 114 inches).

The Range Rover Sport’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (52% to 48%) than the Cayenne Coupe’s (55.9% to 44.1%). This gives the Range Rover Sport more stable handling and braking.

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Sport has a 2.9 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Cayenne Coupe (11.1 vs. 8.2 inches), allowing the Range Rover Sport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover Sport’s minimum ground clearance is 1.5 inches higher than on the Cayenne Coupe Air Suspension (11.1 vs. 9.6 inches).

The design of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport amounts to more than styling. The Range Rover Sport has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Cayenne Coupe (.34 to .35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Sport get better fuel mileage.

The Range Rover Sport uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Range Rover Sport SE is quieter than the Cayenne Turbo GT:

The Range Rover Sport has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Range Rover Sport’s standard Entry and Exit Mode raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Cayenne Coupe.

On a hot day the Range Rover Sport’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Cayenne Coupe can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Sport to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Sport has a standard rear wiper. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

A manual rear sunshade is standard in the Range Rover Sport to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Range Rover Sport’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Cayenne Coupe.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
