The 300 has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The LS doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the 300 and the LS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

There are almost 10 times as many Chrysler dealers as there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 300’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the 300’s reliability 20 points higher than the LS.

The 300C’s 6.4 V8 produces 69 more horsepower (485 vs. 416) and 33 lbs.-ft. more torque (475 vs. 442) than the LS 500’s optional 3.4 turbo V6.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the 300 V8’s fuel efficiency. The LS doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The 300 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The LS doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The 300 stops much shorter than the LS:

The 300 offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the LS; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

The 300S handles at .85 G’s, while the LS 500h AWD pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Chrysler 300 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 700 pounds less than the Lexus LS.

The 300 is 7.5 inches shorter than the LS, making the 300 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the 300 a Large car, while the LS is rated a Mid-size.

The 300 has 6.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the LS (106.3 vs. 99.4).

The 300 has 1.3 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front legroom, .7 inches more front hip room, .7 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, 1.2 inches more rear legroom, 1 inch more rear hip room and 1.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the LS.

The 300’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The LS doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

The 300 has a 1000 lbs. towing capacity. The LS has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Mitigation on the 300 uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The LS doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the 300 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The LS doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Chrysler 300 offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) for the front seat. The LS doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Insurance will cost less for the 300 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the 300 will cost $5770 to $7815 less than the LS over a five-year period.

The 300 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the 300 will retain 45.05% to 46.14% of its original price after five years, while the LS only retains 40.94% to 41.36%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Chrysler 300 will be $36080 to $43410 less than for the Lexus LS.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Chrysler 300, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Lexus LS isn't recommended.
