The iX’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The I-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The BMW iX has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The iX has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The iX has a standard Active Park Distance Control that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Both the iX and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The BMW iX weighs 875 to 985 pounds more than the Jaguar I-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The iX’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the I-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 84 percent more BMW dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the iX’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in initial quality. With 45 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is rated below average.

The iX xDrive50’s standard electric motors produces 122 more horsepower (516 vs. 394) and 52 lbs.-ft. more torque (564 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The iX M60’s standard electric motors produces 216 more horsepower (610 vs. 394) and 237 lbs.-ft. more torque (749 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors.

For better traction, the iX’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the I-Pace (275/40R22 vs. 255/40R22).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the iX is 1.3 inches wider in the front and 1.8 inches wider in the rear than on the I-Pace.

For greater off-road capability the iX has a 2.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (8.8 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the iX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The iX has 1.6 inches more front headroom, 3.9 inches more front shoulder room, 1.4 inches more rear headroom, 3.9 inches more rear legroom and 3.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (35.5 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (77.9 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the iX’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks BMW 7th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With an 8% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the iX has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Laser headlights, optional on the iX, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the I-Pace’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the iX has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The iX also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The iX has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the I-Pace.

The iX offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the I-Pace.

The iX’s optional Automatic Parking Assistant can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The I-Pace’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

The BMW iX outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by over 14 to one during 2022.
