For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Lincoln Navigator L doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

The QX80 Sensory’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Navigator L doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Lincoln Navigator L doesn’t offer height-adjustable middle seat belts.

The QX80 has standard Active Head Restraints (AHR), which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the AHR system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Navigator L doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the QX80 and Navigator L have rear cross-traffic warning, but the QX80 has Back-up Collision Intervention (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Navigator L’s Cross-Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the QX80 and the Navigator L have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX80 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Infiniti will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Lincoln only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Navigator L.

The QX80 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Navigator L. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The QX80 stops shorter than the Navigator L:

The QX80 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Navigator L doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The QX80 has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Navigator L; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The rear suspension of the QX80 uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Navigator L, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The QX80 Sensory has a standard automatic rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Navigator L doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better maneuverability, the QX80’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the Navigator L’s (41.3 feet vs. 43.3 feet).

The Infiniti QX80 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 250 pounds less than the Lincoln Navigator L.

The QX80 is 11.7 inches shorter than the Navigator L, making the QX80 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The QX80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Navigator L’s (8500 vs. 6600 pounds).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Lincoln. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With an 8% lower rating, Lincoln is ranked 12th.

The QX80’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Navigator L does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The QX80’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Navigator L’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The QX80 Sensory has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Navigator L doesn’t offer headlight washers.

When the QX80 is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Navigator L’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Insurance will cost less for the QX80 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the QX80 will cost $130 to $4710 less than the Navigator L over a five-year period.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Infiniti QX80 will be $4545 to $14839 less than for the Lincoln Navigator L.
